The Storm Crusher Festival is Bavaria's most uncompromising old-school metal meeting. In the legendary Wurzer O'Schnitt-Halle in Püchersreuth-Wurz, an indoor venue in the deep Upper Palatinate forest near the Czech border, the classic heavy metal, speed metal, and doom scene gathers every September – bands like Asphyx, Raven, and Atlantean Kodex will shape the 2026 edition. Two festival days, a label night on Thursday, the Band Crusher Contest for newcomers, and a very personal festival atmosphere far from the big open-air meadows.

By car: A93 to Weiden Süd, then B22 towards Neustadt a.d. Waldnaab, then B299 / local connection to Püchersreuth/Wurz. By public transport: Very limited – nearest train station Weiden, from there bus or festival shuttle (info at storm-crusher.de).

The Storm Crusher Festival takes place in the Wurzer O'Schnitt-Halle in the village of Wurz, a district of Püchersreuth in the Neustadt an der Waldnaab district. The hall is a proven indoor venue in the deep Northern Upper Palatinate, just a few kilometers from the Czech border. Unlike the big meadow festivals (Wacken, Summer Breeze), Storm Crusher is an indoor festival – this is reflected in the atmosphere: dense, intimate, acoustically rich.

Storm Crusher is an oldschool heavy metal festival: NWOBHM classics, 80s classic heavy metal, traditional doom, speed/thrash, and older-school death metal. The booking follows the idea of bringing genre legends back to a festival stage on the one hand, and on the other hand, giving current bands of the scene who continue this tradition a forum. The 2026 edition has booked bands like Asphyx (NL, Death/Doom), Raven (UK, NWOBHM pioneers), Atlantean Kodex (DE, epic heavy metal), and Corvus Corax as headliners.

Organizers and History

Behind the festival is the association Storm Crusher e.V. from Etzenricht, a registered association of metal fans from the region. The festival is small compared to commercial open-airs, but it is a fixture in its niche: every new band confirmation is followed online and in the metal press (vampster, Powermetal, Rock Hard).

Band Crusher and Label Night

Two special features set the festival apart: The "Band Crusher" Contest – a preliminary selection of young bands from the region, the winner opens the main festival on Friday afternoon. And the Label Night on Thursday before the festival, a pre-show evening that presents a specific metal label (in 2026, it's Dying Victims Productions).

Arrival and Accommodation

Wurz is located away from major traffic routes – this is part of the festival's character. Arrive by car via Weiden in der Oberpfalz or Neustadt a.d. Waldnaab; public transport is very limited. Camping and accommodation are organized via the festival website.
