825 years of Großenaspe
The municipality of Großenaspe, in the Segeberg district, marks its 825th anniversary in 2026. On September 19 and 20, 2026, the festival meadow and the town centre turn into a continuous festival mile for two days.
Up to 3,000 visitors are expected on each of the two days, both on the festival meadow and in the town centre itself.
A morning gathering opens the programme on Saturday. Children's choir performances follow for families, a flea market runs across both days, and a craft market opens from 1pm to 5pm along the festival mile.
825 years of local history come together in a single weekend, spread between the festival meadow and the town centre of Großenaspe.
The rest of the weekend
Husum hosts two events at once. The Pole Poppenspäler Tage, a fixture of the Husum cultural calendar since 1984 and northern Germany's leading international puppet theatre festival, present around 60 productions from across the world over ten days, from marionettes, hand puppets and shadow theatre to table-top figures and experimental object theatre. The Husumer Hafenmarkt, at the inner harbour next to the historic Speicher Husum warehouse, closes its season with the last of seven dates this year, selling regional produce and craftwork from North Frisia.
On the west coast, the European Beach Sailing Championship wraps up on Saturday: for six days, international teams have raced on Ordinger Strand in St. Peter-Ording at speeds of up to 130 km/h across the resort's 12-kilometre stretch of sand, in several classes. On Sunday, the Kieler Förde Marathon covers the full 42.195-kilometre distance from Laboe to the Olympic centre at Kiel-Schilksee, a course of paved paths, forest sections and a 300-metre stretch of beach, with a relay option for pairs of runners. On Amrum, the Amrumer Muscheltage close with their sporting highlight: the "Rund um Amrum" island run sends runners of every level over distances from 5 to 31.5 kilometres across beach and dunes on Saturday, closing out a week of festivities built around North Sea shellfish cuisine.
Inland, the weekend turns to tradition and art. At the Quickborner Eulen- und Schützenfest, the town's leading annual event for more than 25 years, a flea market in the town centre on Saturday opens the last day of a ten-day festival mile around the town hall square and the Freizeitsee lake. In Mölln, the Spektakulum Mulne brings minstrels, craftspeople and falconers into the spa park of the "Eulenspiegel town" from Friday to Sunday, with free entry and, in the organisers' own words, as a "hate-free zone". In Büdelsdorf, the NordArt continues to show works by more than 200 international artists from over 50 countries in the historic Carlshütte, an iron foundry turned exhibition hall, since June 6, 2026, across 22,000 square metres of indoor space and an 80,000-square-metre sculpture park.
