Grand Anniversary Weekend of the "Village in the Green" Community
Kattendorf is a municipality with just under 1,100 inhabitants in the Kaltenkirchen-Land office, Segeberg district, southwest of Bad Bramstedt. The first documented mention dates back to 1326. 2026 thus marks an extraordinary anniversary — seven centuries of village history, during which Kattendorf has evolved from a medieval farming village into a modern "Village in the Green" residential community in Hamburg's commuter belt.
The anniversary will be celebrated at the sports facility at Sievershüttener Straße 18. On Friday evening, September 18, 2026, an announcement event will kick off the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, September 19/20, the main program will follow with a dense mix of historical, cultural, and social contributions from the village associations.
Although the complete program has not yet been published at the time of this announcement, the 2026 village calendar suggests what will be offered over the three days: a parade with historical costumes, exhibitions on village history, performances by local music and choir groups, culinary offerings from associations and the rural women's association (Landfrauen), and hands-on activities for children. TSV Kattendorf, the volunteer fire department, and the church community are key players.
Kattendorf is located between Kaltenkirchen and Bad Bramstedt — a region with extensive forests, small farm shops, and a vibrant club culture. The Holsteiner Wohld, one of Schleswig-Holstein's oldest forests, begins just a few kilometers away. Visitors to the anniversary can combine their stay with hikes in the Wohld or a trip to the district town of Bad Segeberg.
Kattendorf Sports Facility, Sievershüttener Straße 18, 24568 Kattendorf. The central sports facility is where the festival tent will be located, the stage will be set up, and the associations will present their stands.
The complete program will be published in the months leading up to the anniversary by the Municipality of Kattendorf and the participating associations (TSV Kattendorf, Volunteer Fire Department, Church Community) on the municipal website.
The detailed schedule of the anniversary will be continuously updated by the Municipality of Kattendorf at kattendorf.de and via the 2026 village calendar. Typical components of a German village anniversary of this scale:
700 years of village history, parade, festival tent with stage program, association contributions, historical exhibitions.
