Marathon between Lighthouses and Beach
The Kieler Förde Marathon has earned a firm place in the Northern German running calendar - not through record times or professional starts, but through an exceptionally attractive course. Starting from the Submarine Memorial in Laboe, the 42.195 km course leads westwards along the north coast of the Kiel Fjord, past lighthouses and through seaside resorts, to the Kiel-Schilksee Olympic Center.
A Varied Course
The course characteristics combine several surfaces:
- Asphalted coastal paths for the majority of the route
- Forest sections through coastal woodlands
- 300 m long beach stretch - a rare variation for an official marathon, which characterizes the race
The topography is predominantly flat with occasional short inclines - good conditions for a fast time, provided the wind is blowing from the right direction.
Marathon and Relay
- 42 km Marathon - classic individual start, €50 entry fee
- Relay Marathon - two runners each complete half, €70 per team
In the City of Kiel
Kiel is the state capital of Schleswig-Holstein and, with around 250,000 inhabitants, the largest city in the state. The marathon is organized by LTV Kiel-Ost and is part of a diverse running program in the region, which also includes the Kiel Marathon, the Kiel Half Marathon, and several 10 km and 5 km events. The combination of city, fjord, and maritime backdrop makes the Förde Marathon one of the most original marathon runs in the north.
