10th Edition — Beach festival at the Shared Space with harbour, beach and live music until midnight
Strande is a small municipality in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, located directly on the north side of the Kiel Fjord — about 12 kilometers north of the state capital Kiel. With just under 1,600 inhabitants, Strande is a typical Baltic Sea harbour village with an active yacht harbour, a sandy beach, and a beach promenade extensively renovated and designed in 2015. This promenade is now the venue for the village's most important summer festival.
The Strander Promenadenfest was founded in 2015 to inaugurate the new promenade — and celebrates its 10th edition in 2026. In this short history, the festival has established itself as an attractive late summer event that attracts visitors from the entire Kiel Fjord region, far beyond Strande.
The festival grounds are deliberately designed broadly: the Strande promenade, the harbour area with its jetties, the sandy beach, and the Shared Space area in the middle — a traffic-calmed zone that is completely reserved for pedestrians during the festival. This area will feature:
The musical program of the promenade festival has been the main attraction for years. Confirmed for 2026:
The festival day opens at 3:00 PM with a traditional welcome address by Mayor Dr. Holger Klink. The official opening will be immediately accompanied musically by the Shantychor of the Lotsenbrüderschaft Knurrhahn — a classic Strande opening.
Strande belongs to the Kiel Fjord region — alongside Kiel, Eckernförde, Laboe, Heikendorf, and other Baltic Sea harbour communities. Strande's beach promenade is one of the best in the region — a modern wooden structure with seating, views towards the Baltic Sea, and a connection between the yacht harbour and the sandy beach. The promenade festival utilizes this architecture — a special combination of a folk festival and maritime urban architecture.
With its 10th edition, the Strander Promenadenfest celebrates its first anniversary in 2026. The program remains true to the proven format: a festival day from 3:00 PM to midnight on the Strande promenade and the Shared Space area, with the full program of live music, sales stalls, beer garden, and children's play area.
Mayor Dr. Holger Klink opens the festival at 3:00 PM — immediately followed by the Shantychor of the Lotsenbrüderschaft Knurrhahn at 3:10 PM.
