The World's Largest Triathlon

The WTCS Hamburg is the world's largest triathlon by participant numbers. Over 10,000 amateur athletes compete in the Open Races alongside the international World Cup elite, who contest the official World Series on the same weekend. This combination of elite competition and mass participation in a historic city centre setting makes the Hamburg format one of the most important events on the international triathlon calendar.

The Course – Hamburg in One Lap

The swim takes place in the Jungfernstieg (Binnenalster), starting from a pontoon with a jump into the water. The bike course is flat and technical through Hamburg's city centre: Hafenrandstraße, Landungsbrücken, Reeperbahn (closed for hours), Speicherstadt with its historic brick warehouses, returning to Rathausmarkt. The run is flat around the Binnenalster, with the finish line on Rathausmarkt – a picture-perfect finish location directly in front of Hamburg City Hall.

Programme: Elite, Open Races, Mixed Relay

The programme is divided into three pillars. Elite Races: Women and men over Sprint distance (750 m swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run), World Series points. Mixed Relay: Four-person team (two women, two men), a Hamburg specialty, where the format was significantly developed over 15 years ago. Open Races: thousands of amateur starters over Sprint and Olympic distances (1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run).

SUZUKI as Title Partner

SUZUKI has been the title partner of WTCS Hamburg for several years. The automotive company significantly finances the course construction, safety barriers, and TV production. World Triathlon, the international governing body, coordinates the World Series standings. Hamburg Triathlon GmbH is operationally responsible for the event on-site in close coordination with the City of Hamburg.

An Identity Event for the State of Hamburg

The WTCS Hamburg is one of the few major sporting events that turn Hamburg's city centre into a stage for a weekend each year. In the sports calendar of the state of Hamburg, it is by far the most important sporting event, alongside the Haspa Marathon. The Hamburg-Mitte district, with its Altstadt and Neustadt neighbourhoods, becomes an international triathlon stage for two days, with hundreds of thousands of spectators along the course.
