Elegant Christmas market with white pagoda tents and historic Ferris wheel directly on the Binnenalster
When the days get shorter and Hamburg is adorned with fairy lights, Jungfernstieg becomes the stage for one of the Hanseatic city's most elegant Christmas markets. The "Weißer Zauber" – organized by RSW Veranstaltungen GmbH for over 18 years – consciously adapts to its sophisticated location between the Alster Arkaden, luxury hotels, and exclusive shops: white pagoda tents instead of rustic wooden stalls, subtle white lighting instead of colorful fairy lights, a curated selection instead of mass-produced goods.
The market's landmark is a historic Ferris wheel from 1899, which circles high above the Binnenalster. From the top, you have arguably the most beautiful view of the illuminated fir tree on the water and the festive city center skyline between the Town Hall and the main train station. Five fairy tale boats on the water complement the maritime-wintery scene – a Hamburg specialty you won't find at any other Christmas market.
The selection is high-quality and curated: arts and crafts and fine gift items, toys, jewelry, and Christmas decorations made of glass, wood, and ceramics. Culinary delights include the classic Christmas market fare – mulled wine, punch, and hot drinks with a cinnamon note, roasted almonds, gingerbread – supplemented by Hamburg specialties such as fish sandwiches and North German coffee variations.
Jungfernstieg is part of the Neustadt or Altstadt district in the Hamburg-Mitte borough and is the central promenade address of the Hanseatic city – S-Bahn, U-Bahn, and all bus lines converge here. This makes Weißer Zauber part of a dense network of Christmas markets: the Historic Christmas Market at the Town Hall, the Winter Forest at Gerhart-Hauptmann-Platz, and Santa Pauli on the Reeperbahn are all within a 10-minute walk. Those planning a Hamburg Christmas stroll usually start here at Jungfernstieg.
Hamburg, a city-state and federal state in one, differs from southern German Christmas market cities through its Protestant-Hanseatic profile: less baroque pomp, more maritime elegance. The Weißer Zauber exemplifies this self-image – stylish, understated, with a view of the water.
In 2026, the Weißer Zauber will once again transform Jungfernstieg into an elegant white winter landscape. As the market has been held annually for over a decade and is deeply embedded in Hamburg's Christmas calendar, the event is considered secured – even if the official announcement of dates and program usually takes place in late summer on the organizer's website.
The key elements are expected to remain stable: opening in mid-November, closing on December 23, with daily opening hours from morning to evening. The Ferris wheel, the pagoda tents, and the maritime setting on the Binnenalster will remain.
The detailed program for 2026 will typically be published by RSW Veranstaltungen GmbH in late summer 2026. Based on previous years, the following recurring elements can be expected:
