Charity run for spinal cord research with a globally synchronized start
The Wings for Life World Run is more than a city marathon: it's a global running concept where runners worldwide start at the same time. There is no fixed finish line: 30 minutes after the start, a Catcher Car begins moving at each location, following the running group at a controlled, increasing pace. Whoever is overtaken finishes their run – the last person before the Catcher Car is the 'Global Champion'.
In 2026, the Bavarian capital is one of the few flagship locations worldwide: the start will be at the Olympiapark Munich, right in the heart of the city's Olympic history. Around 14,000 participants are expected, traveling from Germany and abroad.
The motto 'Run for those who can't' gets straight to the point: people with paraplegia, who have so far been denied a medical cure for spinal cord injuries, are to be given hope through the research of the Wings for Life Foundation. With every entry fee, each runner directly contributes to the financing of international research projects.
The 13th edition of the Wings for Life World Run will bring thousands of participants to Munich again on May 10, 2026. The starting point is the Olympic Park, and the starting gun will fire precisely at 1:00 PM local time – simultaneously with all other flagship locations worldwide.
30 minutes after the starting signal, the Catcher Car will set off and pursue the runners at a continuously increasing speed. Each runner will thus have a completely individual distance – whoever is overtaken finishes the race. Around 14,000 participants are expected in Munich.
Entry fee according to category – adult, reduced, junior – and registration date; early birds get a discount. Rates available on the official website wingsforlifeworldrun.com.
The start in the Olympiapark Munich is optimally accessible via the U-Bahn line U3 (stop Olympiazentrum) or the surrounding tram and bus lines. Due to the route passing through Munich's main traffic arteries, using public transport is strongly recommended.
Global start: 1:00 PM local time. Arriving at the start early (at least 90 minutes before the start) is recommended by the organizer.

Those who are not running themselves can best follow the race at the Olympiapark or along the route – the Wings for Life app offers live tracking of the leading group and the Catcher Car.
