Running through Munich
The MARATHON MÜNCHEN by Brooks has quickly established itself as the major city marathon of Bavaria's state capital. The premiere edition in 2025 achieved a participation record with around 28,500 participants and was awarded the World Athletics Road Race Label. In a study, the course was described as "Germany's most beautiful city marathon route.".
The Course
The start and finish of the run are in the Olympiapark, the landmark of Munich's sporting history. The single-loop marathon course leads from the Olympiapark via the Englischer Garten and the Isar riverbanks through the Werksviertel back into the city center and back to the Olympiapark. Along the way, runners pass Munich landmarks such as Marienplatz, Odeonsplatz, Sendlinger Tor, and the historic city gates.

Munich as a Running City
The state capital Munich in the Upper Bavaria administrative region combines elite sport with a major popular sports event at the marathon. Thousands of spectators line the course through the city center, making the running weekend a city festival for all of Munich.
München Marathon — edition 2026
The MARATHON MÜNCHEN by Brooks 2026 takes place on Sunday, October 11. Start at 9:00 AM in the Olympiapark. In 2026, the Bavarian Marathon Championships will be held as part of the marathon.
The single-loop course leads from the Olympiapark via the Englischer Garten, the Isar riverbanks, and the Werksviertel back into the city center and to the Olympiapark. Offered are the Marathon, Marathon Relay, the Sport Schuster Half Marathon by Brooks, a 10-kilometer run (start Werksviertel), Children's Runs (Sat 10.10.), and the Friendship Run, all integrated into a Runners Festival.

Getting There
The Olympiapark is easily accessible by subway (U3 Olympiazentrum). By car via the Mittlerer Ring; road closures in the city center must be observed on race days — travel by public transport recommended.
