About Wine Festival Steep Slopes Hessigheim
Wine Festival Steep Slopes Hessigheim — edition 2026
2026 Premiere Program
The new Hessigheim Wine Festival is taking place for the first time in 2026. The organizers — the Steillagen Hessigheim association and the local vintners and restaurateurs — have a clearly defined concept: no festival meadow in the village, but stations directly in the steep slopes. Visitors move from stand to stand among the terraced vineyards, with the characteristic Felsengärten on the horizon.
The program focuses on wine tasting at several stations, combined with small, matching dishes from local gastronomy. Live music or stage performances are deliberately limited — the focus is on wine, landscape, and personal contact with the vintners. The restriction to local providers is part of the brand identity.

Hessigheim and its Felsengärten
Hessigheim, with just under 2,200 inhabitants, is located in the Ludwigsburg district in the state of Baden-Württemberg, on the Neckar loop between Mundelsheim, Besigheim, and Bietigheim. The Hessigheim Felsengärten — terraced steep vineyards below the characteristic rock formations — are among Württemberg's most beautiful wine-growing landscapes. A new wine festival will launch here in May 2026, aiming to strengthen Hessigheim's reputation as a wine-growing town. The municipal council has supported the initiative with clear conditions: only local vintners and restaurateurs, no commercial large festival, but an authentic format amidst the steep slopes.
2026 Program — Premiere with a Clear Concept
The festival runs on Friday, May 15th from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, on Saturday, May 16th from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and on Sunday, May 17th from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The venue is the steep slopes at Wurmberg, below the Felsengärten — meaning the festival grounds are spread across the terraced vineyards, visitors move between stations, and wine service and catering adapt to the location.
Only Local Vintners and Restaurateurs
A hallmark of the new festival is the restriction to local providers: Only Hessigheim vintners and local restaurateurs are allowed to offer drinks and food. This is not by chance, but a deliberate strategy: the festival aims to make Hessigheim visible as a wine town, not to import generic festival cuisine. Tasting Hessigheim's Trollinger, Lemberger, Riesling, Weißburgunder, and Schwarzriesling is the focus; local restaurateurs prepare suitable small dishes.
Admission with Association Contribution
Admission costs €6 — of which €1 goes directly to the Steillagen Hessigheim association, which is responsible for the care and maintenance of the terraced vineyard landscape. Steep slope maintenance is labor-intensive and not commercially viable; the festival is thus part of the conscious protection of the historical wine culture landscape.
Hessigheim as a Wine Town
Hessigheim and the neighboring towns of Mundelsheim, Besigheim, Walheim, and Kirchheim am Neckar are among the Württemberg wine-growing centers. In the state of Baden-Württemberg, the steep slopes along the Neckar between Stuttgart and Heilbronn are one of the most traditional wine regions — a UNESCO-worthy cultural landscape actively protected by the Steillagen Hessigheim association. The new wine festival is a powerful staging of this identity.
