SommerFÄSCHD — Mundelsheim Celebrates Three Times Differently

The Mundelsheimer SommerFÄSCHD has a clever concept: instead of three identical festival days, the municipality designs each day differently. This way, the festival appeals to various audience segments — young after-work guests on Friday, the main festival crowd on Saturday, and families and tradition lovers on Sunday. The venue is the Mundelsheim market square between the Rathaus (town hall) and the historic Torbogen (archway) — a characteristic village square surrounded by half-timbered houses.

Friday — After-Work, Happy Hour, and DJ

The festival weekend kicks off on Friday, July 24, starting at 7 PM with an after-work atmosphere. Happy hour, DJ sets with pop and disco, high tables, and lounge furniture on the market square — a more urban, younger format that draws young professionals from Mundelsheim and guests from Marbach and Ludwigsburg to the village. Catering includes cocktails, regional wine, beer, and simple snacks.

Saturday — Mayor's Opening and Party Band

Saturday, July 25, is the main festival day. Opening by the mayor in the early evening, followed by a performance by a party band playing cover hits from pop, rock, and Schlager. The festival tent fills up, and the entire village community comes together — the typical atmosphere of a Swabian civic festival with beer, wine, and Swabian specialties (Maultaschen, Spätzle, Saumagen). Catering is provided by local associations.

Sunday — Music Band, Bread Basket Parade, and Family Program

Sunday, July 26, is the day dedicated to tradition. The Musikkapelle Mundelsheim & Friends will play Swabian brass music on the market square. The highlight is the traditional „Brotkorbtragen” (bread basket parade) — a specific Mundelsheim custom where a decorated bread basket is carried through the village community (typically to the catering area, symbolizing community and harvest festival). There will also be a children's program with games, carousels, and craft activities. The festival ends in the late afternoon/early evening.

Mundelsheim — Wine Village on the Neckar

Mundelsheim (approx. 3,300 inhabitants, Ludwigsburg district, AGS 08118) is a small wine-growing community on the Neckar river, about 15 km north of Marbach am Neckar. Its specialty is the Käsberglage — one of the northernmost Württemberg wine-growing areas with its own grape varieties. The community has a very active club culture (music band, sports, traditional costumes); the SommerFÄSCHD, along with the Käsbergfest and the Pfingstmarkt (Pentecost market), is one of the three central annual events.
