Two-day wine festival high above the Neckar loop — wines, tarte flambée, and a ribbon of lights on Käsberg
Mundelsheim is located in the Württemberg wine region north of Ludwigsburg, in the district of Ludwigsburg, on the famous bend of the Neckar loop. Anyone who has seen the view over the vineyards and the deep valley with the winding river from the A 81 motorway knows the postcard motif. The Käsbergfest will take place on May 22 and 23, 2026, on Käsberg, the vineyard above the village — one of the most atmospheric wine festivals on the entire Württemberg Neckar.
The organizers are the Weingärtner Mundelsheim and the Lauffener Weingärtner — two of the most renowned Württemberg wine cooperatives. A cross-section of the award-winning wines from both houses will be tasted: Trollinger, Lemberger, Schwarzriesling, Riesling, Weißburgunder, as well as cuvées and selection wines. In addition, there are non-alcoholic grape specialties and a light summer wine that suits the evening meal.
Instead of festival tent catering, the Käsbergfest focuses on picnic-like stations along the upper path: pulled pork sandwiches, suckling pig with potato salad, freshly baked tarte flambée from a wood-fired oven, accompanied by cheese platters and bread. Those who wish can sit at the long table, which is decorated with fairy lights in the evening — a sight that many guests remember as the most beautiful of the Württemberg early summer.
Mundelsheim, with just under 3,300 inhabitants, and Lauffen am Neckar (birthplace of Friedrich Hölderlin) are among the most traditional wine-growing towns in Württemberg. The steep slopes of Käsberg, Wurmberg, and the Neckar loop produce wines with minerality and fruit — typical of the Württemberg growing region in the Ludwigsburg district and the neighboring Heilbronn district. The Käsbergfest brings these steep slopes directly to visitors for a weekend: those who climb the path walk through the vineyards of the wineries whose wine ends up in your glass.
The Käsbergfest 2026 starts on Friday evening, May 22, with hearty food on the upper path and live music by the band GATS. On Saturday, May 23, the program continues from 4:00 PM — continuation of the musical accompaniment, wine tasting, culinary delights into the evening hours. The organizers are the Weingärtner Mundelsheim and the Lauffener Weingärtner — two of the most famous Württemberg wine cooperatives.
The setting is extraordinary: no festival meadow in the village, but a catered path high on the steep slopes, with a view over the Neckar loop to Lauffen. Illuminated fairy lights in the evening, long tables where you can simply sit down.
Free admission. Wine tasting per 0.1 liter typically €2.00–€3.50 depending on the variety. Food (pulled pork sandwich approx. €6–€8, suckling pig portion approx. €9–€12, tarte flambée approx. €6–€8) at usual festival prices. Glass deposit at the entrance.
On foot or by bike directly from the center of Mundelsheim up to Käsberg (approx. 20–30 minutes, steep climb — sturdy footwear recommended). By car via the A 81 (Mundelsheim exit) and the L 1115; parking available at the L 1115 hiking parking lot. Take the S-Bahn S 4 to Bietigheim-Bissingen, then bus or taxi to Mundelsheim.
