Autumn production "Haraldos 5th Element" at the Karl May Open-Air Stage Mörschied
The Karl May Open-Air Stage Mörschied is one of Germany's most famous venues for Karl May plays. Located in the Hunsrück, a main Karl May production (in the 2026 season: "Winnetou 2 — The Secret of the Scout") is performed every summer with professional actors, volunteers, horses, birds of prey, and elaborate effects. Thousands of visitors come every summer from all over southern Germany, Luxembourg, and France.
After the main season concludes in July, the Karl-May-Festspiele Mörschied e.V. association organizes a second, more compact season in September. The autumn production is deliberately not Karl May-themed, but opens the open-air stage to other stories — stories that utilize the format of an open-air spectacle with horses, acrobatics, pyrotechnics, and grand stage technology.
For 2026, this autumn production is titled "Haraldos 5th Element". In terms of content and genre, a mythical-fantastic story is expected, showcasing the possibilities of the open-air stage: vast stage areas, equestrian scenes, fire effects, stunt sequences, and musical accompaniment. Three performances over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday — typical for such spectacle productions, offering a shorter, more intense season compared to the longer summer run.
The audience for the September show is typically diverse: regular Karl May visitors who appreciate the open-air format itself; fans of spectacle theatre and Larp aesthetics; families looking for a special weekend getaway in the Hunsrück.
The 2026 autumn show brings three intense performances to the Mörschied open-air stage. The association utilizes the venue's capabilities — the equestrian team, pyrotechnics, stage structures — for an independent production beyond the Karl May classics.
The exact program for 2026 (start times, cast, possible pre- and post-show events) will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years: three evening performances on Fri/Sat/Sun, each lasting approximately 2 hours, with an intermission and catering.
