Welzheim — Gateway to the Welzheimer Wald
Welzheim is a small town with around 11,000 inhabitants in the Rems-Murr district (state of Baden-Württemberg) — located on a hill in the Welzheimer Wald between Schorndorf and the Limes region. The town is the gateway to the Welzheimer Wald of the same name, an extensive mixed forest area with Klingenbach gorges, Limes walls, and hiking trails — a popular weekend destination for the Stuttgart region.
Tradition from the 1970s
The Welzheimer Straßenfest has deep roots in the town's history: it originated in the 1970s as a citizens' initiative, with the aim of raising funds for the construction of the municipal Justinus-Kerner-Halle — the town's central event hall today. The hall is named after Justinus Kerner (1786–1862), the Swabian poet and doctor who was closely associated with Welzheim. This initiative has evolved into an annual tradition of the street festival.
Two-Day Festival Mile
The festival spans the Kirchplatz and the city center — a continuous festival mile with:
- Live music on the stage at Kirchplatz
- Catering stands of the Welzheim associations: Bratwurst, Maultaschen, Schnitzel, Cake
- Württemberg wine and draft beer
- Fairground rides with a carousel for children
- Sunday large flea market
Large Flea Market on Sunday
The Welzheimer Flea Market has a tradition as long as the street festival itself and has been associated with the festival for decades. On Sunday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, vendors from Welzheim and the entire Rems-Murr district set up their stalls in the city center — antiques, bric-a-brac, furniture, books, collectibles. In parallel, Welzheim's shops open their doors for Sunday shopping from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Festival Weekend End of July 2026
The Welzheimer Straßenfest 2026 opens on Saturday, July 25 at 4:00 pm — opening with a keg tapping ceremony on the Kirchplatz, live music by regional bands, catering by the Welzheim associations. The festival runs continuously until 1:00 am.
Sunday, July 26 starts at 11:00 am with the large Welzheim flea market (11 am–6 pm) — an independent tradition that perfectly complements the street festival. From 1:00 pm, the Welzheim shops also open for Sunday shopping (1 pm–6 pm). Catering by the associations and live music continue all day, with the festival ending at 10:00 pm.

Getting There
You can reach Welzheim via the B 14 (Schorndorf–Crailsheim) and the L 1080. By train: Schorndorf station (Remsbahn S 2 from Stuttgart Hbf), from there take bus 269 to Welzheim (approx. 30 min.). Parking available in the Welzheim city center.

Saturday, July 25, 2026: 4:00 pm to 1:00 am (festival atmosphere, live music). Sunday, July 26, 2026: 11:00 am to 10:00 pm (with flea market 11 am–6 pm and Sunday shopping 1 pm–6 pm).
