Program Highlights
Christmas Stage on the Market Square, puppet theater under the arcades, horse-drawn carriage rides on weekends, fireworks on the opening weekend.
Young City in Old Walls
Waiblingen, the administrative seat of the Rems-Murr district (AGS 08119) with around 56,000 inhabitants, calls itself a “Young City in Old Walls”. The character is shaped by the historic old town with half-timbered houses and medieval traces — and at the same time by economic dynamism thanks to its proximity to Stuttgart and the company Stihl. At the Waiblingen Christmas Market, old meets modern: the historic facades form the backdrop, and the program focuses on contemporary content.
A Market in Four Levels of the Old Town
Unlike most Christmas markets, the Waiblingen market is spread across four clearly separated areas:
- Market Square — Main area with stalls and the central Christmas Stage
- Under the Arcades at the Town Hall — Puppet theater (Kasperletheater) for children
- Schlosskeller — ART-verwandt, curated crafts market
- Camerabüro-Keller — Advent Calendar Exhibition
This allows visitors to explore several covered areas even in cold weather — which is unusual and one of the advantages over purely outdoor markets.
Christmas Stage and Live Program
The central Christmas Stage on the Market Square offers a daily changing program:
- Trombone choirs and Christmas choirs on weekdays from 5–7 PM
- Classical concerts (chamber music, wind ensembles) on weekends
- Dance performances and show acts (jazz dance, hip-hop from Waiblingen schools) on weekends
- Puppet theater for children under the arcades, several times daily
Advent Weekly Market at the Town Hall
A Waiblingen specialty: On Fridays and Saturdays, the regular weekly market offer at the town hall is expanded with an Advent weekly market. Regional farmers, cheese dairies, honey, and poultry — a welcome addition for gifts or festive cuisine, complementing the usual mulled wine and bratwurst offerings.
Horse-Drawn Carriages and Fireworks
Horse-drawn carriage rides on weekends offer a special perspective on the historic old town. Fireworks on the opening weekend and free Christmas music concerts complete the offerings. Admission to the entire market: free.
Top Connections and Parking
Waiblingen is only a 10-minute S-Bahn ride from Stuttgart Central Station — perfect for a day trip from the state capital. Over 1,000 free parking spaces around the old town make arriving by car uncomplicated.
