About Christkindlesmarkt Balingen
Christkindlesmarkt Balingen — edition 2026
2026 Edition — The Classic on the First Advent Weekend
The Christkindlesmarkt Balingen 2026 opens on the first Advent weekend — Saturday, November 28th, and Sunday, November 29th — from 11 am to 8 pm. Over 120 exhibitors will occupy the stalls on the Marktplatz, Kirchplatz, and surrounding alleys. Applications for exhibitors for 2026 are open until June 15, 2026, via the digital registration on the city's website.
Santa Claus resides in the Zollernschloss and receives families for stories and craft activities. The Balingen city administration coordinates the program; local associations complement it with musical contributions — typically brass choirs, children's choirs, and small concerts on Sunday afternoons.

Tip
Arrive deliberately late in the afternoon (around 4 pm) — that's when the fairy lights are switched on and the atmosphere becomes particularly Christmassy.
Christkindlesmarkt Balingen — Advent in the Zollernalb District
When the fairy lights in Balingen's old town are switched on on the first weekend of Advent and the scent of mulled wine, roasted almonds, and freshly baked waffles wafts across the market square, the Christkindlesmarkt Balingen is back. From November 28th to 29th, 2026, daily from 11 am to 8 pm, the heart of this Swabian district capital transforms into a festive town of stalls with over 120 decorated stands — and for over 50 years, it has been a firm fixture in the Advent calendar of the Zollernalb district.
Arts and Crafts and Advent Atmosphere
Over 120 exhibitors offer handmade arts and crafts made from wood, ceramics, glass, felt, fabric, and leather — from small nativity figures, Advent arrangements, and incense smokers to individual Christmas baubles and Erzgebirge candle arches. Regional producers also sell honey, fruit brandies, mead, gingerbread, Christstollen, and cookies. Stroll among the decorated stalls, be enchanted by the lighting of Balingen's historic old town, and enjoy a hot mulled wine in one of the typical pottery mugs.
Santa Claus in the Zollernschloss
A Balingen specialty: In the historic Zollernschloss, right on the market square, Santa Claus resides during the Christkindlesmarkt. Children can visit him, present their wishes, and pick up small gifts. Additionally, Advent stories are read in the castle, and there are creative craft workshops for families — from folding stars and decorating Advent candles to building nativity scenes. This makes the market particularly family-friendly.
Culinary Delights and Mulled Wine
The gastronomic spectrum is wide: mulled wine in several varieties (classic red, white, berry mulled wine, children's punch), Feuerzangenbowle (flaming rum punch), hot chocolate, fresh crêpes, Swabian bratwurst from a charcoal grill, potato pancakes, mushroom pan, Maultaschen (Swabian ravioli), fries, vegetarian options, candied almonds, chocolate-covered fruit. Local restaurants supplement their menus with Christmas specials.
Balingen and the Zollernalb District
The city of Balingen, with around 35,000 inhabitants, is the seat of the Zollernalb district in Baden-Württemberg, at the transition from the Swabian Jura to the Black Forest. The striking Zollernschloss, dating from the 13th century, is the historic castle of the Counts of Zollern and today houses the city administration and a city museum. Balingen's city center, with its mix of historic half-timbered houses, modern shops, and cozy cafés, provides the perfect backdrop for a classic Swabian Christkindlesmarkt.
