Traditional Whitsun Volksfest with 80-meter chain carousel in the Zollernalb district
The Balinger Volksfest is one of the most traditional and largest Volksfests in the Zollernalb district (state of Baden-Württemberg). The venue is the large exhibition grounds of the city of Balingen in the location "Auf Stetten", right next to the Stadthalle and the Volksbank-Messehalle. The event is organized by the city of Balingen together with the showmen.
Traditionally, the Volksfest takes place around Pentecost – the date takes advantage of the Pentecost holidays and the long weekend for maximum family attendance from the entire region. Six festival days from Wednesday or Thursday to the following Sunday are spread across the Pentecost weekend.
Large beer garden with regional beer (often Hohenzoller, the beer from neighboring Sigmaringen) and Swabian culinary specialties:
The Balinger Volksfest clearly positions itself as a family Volksfest. Unlike some large Volksfests with a pronounced beer tent character, the focus here is on family entertainment – with children's rides, the 80-meter swing as a highlight for the brave of all generations, and a balanced mix of rides, sweet stalls, and catering. Family discount promotions on certain days.
The city of Balingen (~35,000 inhabitants) is the district capital of the Zollernalb district and is centrally located between the Black Forest and the Swabian Jura. Characteristic features include the historic old town with its castle, its location on the Eyach river (a tributary of the Neckar), and its importance as an economic center. In the South German Volksfest calendar, Balingen holds its firm position as the most important Pentecost date in the region.
From June 3rd to 8th, 2026, the "Auf Stetten" exhibition grounds in Balingen will once again transform into one of the largest amusement parks in the Zollernalb district. For six festival days, the spectacular 80-meter chain carousel – one of the largest swing attractions in Southern Germany – will spin above the Alb foreland. In addition, dodgems, a Ferris wheel, a haunted house, and several children's carousels will delight families from the entire Zollernalb district and beyond. The large beer garden serves regional beer and Swabian-Southern German cuisine – pork knuckle, rolled roast, Maultaschen, Kässpätzle, plus candied almonds, gingerbread, crêpes, and ice cream. Free entry to the festival grounds, rides and food/drinks payable.
Messegelände Balingen / Auf Stetten, 72336 Balingen. By train: Balingen Süd station (~10 min. walk to the festival grounds). By car via the B27 (Tübingen–Sigmaringen).
Free entry to the festival grounds. Rides and food/drinks payable.
On selected days, there are family discount promotions for reduced-price rides. Information available on the Stadthalle Balingen website.
The Pentecost weekend is the busiest festival period – families should consider weekdays outside this peak time for a more relaxed visit.
