Three Days of Festival Mile Between Ringstraße and Marktplatz

When the city center of Heidenau is cordoned off on the last weekend of May, the most important festival of the year begins: the Heidenau City Festival. The festival mile stretches from Ringstraße via Ernst-Thälmann-Straße to the Marktplatz — three stages, over 30 program items, plus amusement rides, food stalls, club stands, and a varied family program. With over 50,000 inhabitants, Heidenau is one of the largest towns in the Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge district — the city festival is correspondingly well-attended.

Friday — Opening with Björn Martins and Fireworks

The kickoff on Friday, May 29, 2026, features Björn Martins with rock and pop songs, followed by Tim Peters, whose mix of electronic beats and catchy melodies is located in the pop-schlager genre. The evening is crowned by an 80s Tribute Band with the hits of the eighties. At 10:00 PM, there will be a fireworks display over the city center — a typical highlight on the first festival evening.

Saturday — Swing, Latin, Funk on the Kräuterwiese

Saturday brings musical diversity: Drugmiller's BigBand plays swing, Latin, funk, and dance music on the main stage — a classic for every generation. In addition, performances by Daniel Lopes (pop) and the cover band House Player. A special feature of the Heidenau City Festival is the Kräuterwiese (herb meadow): a separate thematic area with a moderated program — live music, small magic shows, interactive activities, and especially herb tastings with local producers from Saxon Switzerland. A lovingly designed neighborhood element that distinguishes the festival's impression from the usual city festival.

Saturday Morning — Open Day for Emergency Services

On Saturday, the fire department and rescue services open their doors. Families can inspect emergency vehicles, watch the police with the dog show, and get to know the interior of an ambulance. On Sunday, there will be a fire department demonstration — the spectacular classic with water cannons, aerial platforms, and a live exercise.

Sunday — Nora Louisa and Heidenau Day

Sunday, May 31, 2026, is Heidenau's own day: on the main stage, Nora Louisa, a native of Heidenau, performs, gaining a growing audience as a singer-songwriter. In addition, Daniel Sommer and regional musicians will perform. A special feature: the nearby Baroque Garden Großsedlitz offers its citrus tree exhibition during the city festival — an ideal addition to a stroll after the festival day.

Heidenau — Industrial and Sports City Between the Elbe and Saxon Switzerland

The city of Heidenau, with around 17,000 inhabitants, is located in the Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge district, directly southeast of Dresden on the Elbe River. It is known for its industrial history (Heidenau Wax and Paint Factories) and its location at the gateway to Saxon Switzerland. Visitors to the city festival can combine their stay with a tour of the nearby Saxon Switzerland National Park (Bastei, Königstein).

Heidenau City Festival 2026 with over 30 program items on 3 stages: Friday opening with Björn Martins, Tim Peters, 80s Tribute Band, and fireworks at 10 PM. 2026 Edition — Three Days, Three Stages, Over 30 Program Items

The 2026 City Festival continues the proven format: three stages, a continuous program from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening, supplemented by amusement rides, club stands, and thematic areas like the Kräuterwiese (herb meadow). The main stage at the Marktplatz hosts the larger acts; the stages on Ringstraße and Ernst-Thälmann-Straße offer smaller formats and more neighborhood atmosphere.

A special feature in 2026: the strong connection to the regional music scene. With Nora Louisa, a native of Heidenau, the city festival features a local voice in its program that is growing on a national level. Drugmiller's BigBand brings the region's big band tradition to the main stage. The program is rounded off by DJ sets, dance groups, and cover band performances.
