Spring Market in Front of the Goethe-Schiller Backdrop
The Weimar Easter Market is the traditional prelude to spring in the city of German Classicism. From Saturday, March 28 to Sunday, March 29, 2026, the historic Market Square and Theatre Square will transform into a double market area — in front of the Town Hall and in front of the German National Theatre with the Goethe-Schiller Monument. Both squares are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site «Classical Weimar» and offer an atmosphere unmatched by any other Easter market in Thuringia.
Floristry, Arts and Crafts, and Toys
The assortment is clearly Easter-themed:
- Floral Variety — Spring flowers, daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, decorative arrangements
- Arts and Crafts — Painted Easter eggs, wooden figures, ceramics, gift ideas from regional workshops
- Toys — Seasonal wooden toys, plush bunnies, craft kits for children
- Culinary Delights — Food and drink stalls, coffee specialties, regional pastries
New in 2026 — Carousel and Easter Basket Crafting
The 2026 edition significantly expands the family offerings:
- For the first time, a carousel will spin on the Market Square for children
- An Easter basket crafting workshop invites families to craft together — the finished baskets can be taken home
- The Neptune Fountain will also be traditionally decorated for Easter — an occasion to prepare decorations beforehand in a hands-on format
Sunday Opening Hours
On Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 11 am to 5 pm, the shops in Weimar's city center will be open (Sunday opening hours). This combines a market visit with a stroll through the old town, along Schillerstrasse, Marktstrasse, and the Theatre Square area.

The city of Weimar (approx. 65,000 inhabitants) is located in the district of Weimarer Land in the center of Thuringia and is the intellectual heart of German Classicism. Goethe, Schiller, Herder, Bach, Liszt, the Bauhaus — hardly any other city in Germany combines so many cultural movements in such a small space. The Easter Market is a wonderful occasion to discover Weimar in spring: from the market, it's only a few minutes to the Schiller House, the Goethe House on Frauenplan, the Park an der Ilm, or the Anna Amalia Library.

2026 Edition
The 2026 edition significantly expands the Easter Market's family offerings: for the first time, a carousel will spin on the Market Square for children, and a workshop for Easter basket crafting invites families to create together. Market Square and Theatre Square together form the market area. The Neptune Fountain will be traditionally decorated for Easter as usual — those interested can help prepare decorations.
On Sunday, the shops in the city center will open for the Sunday opening hours (11 am-5 pm), allowing a combination of market visit and city center stroll.
