Traditional three-day marksmen's and folk festival in the Walle district of the municipality of Vechelde with bird shooting, parade, and dance evenings
The marksmen's tradition has shaped life in the villages around Braunschweig and Peine for centuries. In the Walle district of the municipality of Vechelde, this tradition is carefully and enthusiastically maintained by the Schützenverein Walle e.V. The annual Schützenfest is much more than just a club festival: it is living village community, an event that brings families, friends, and former residents back to their home village year after year.
The festival classically extends from Friday to Sunday. Friday evening begins with the marksmen assembling, the festive opening, and a first dance evening, often accompanied by a live band or a DJ. Saturday is dedicated to the bird shooting, where the new marksmen's queen or king is determined. This is followed by the grand parade of the marksmen in uniform, often accompanied by friendly clubs from surrounding villages. In the evening, the new monarch is officially proclaimed; in the marquee, a dance band provides entertainment until late into the night. Sunday traditionally concludes with a hearty morning pint, a family afternoon with a children's program, and the final dance.
Walle is one of the twelve districts of the municipality of Vechelde, located between Braunschweig and Peine. The village is easily accessible via the L 295 and has a traditional festival ground at the Schützenplatz. During the Schützenfest, the area transforms into a marquee with a stage, bar, shooting range, and a small amusement area. The club's hospitality is known beyond the village borders; guests from Vechelde, Braunschweig, and the Peine region are explicitly welcome.
Behind the Schützenfest is the voluntary work of numerous members: from the board and festival committees to the youngest active members of the youth department. This living club culture not only ensures the quality of the festival but also the continuation of a regional tradition that is one of the defining identity features of many North German villages.
In 2026, the Walle Marksmen's Club e.V. once again invites you to its three-day marksmen's and folk festival. The highlights include bird shooting, the parade, and the proclamation of the new monarchs. Live music and DJs will provide entertainment in the marquee; Sunday offers a convivial conclusion with a family afternoon and morning pint.
The detailed program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring.
