Advent Magic in the City of Classics

Weimar is the city of classics, the cradle of the Bauhaus, and a UNESCO World Heritage site – and in Advent, one of Thuringia's most atmospheric Christmas market destinations. The Weimar Christmas extends from November 24, 2026, into the new year 2027, combining a historic backdrop with vibrant city life.

Three Squares, One Festive Mile

The rows of stalls extend from the Market Square with the Town Hall, across Herder Square with St. Peter and Paul's Church, to Theater Square with the German National Theatre. In front of the Goethe-Schiller Monument, an ice rink invites you to go ice skating – one of the most beautiful ice rinks in Central Germany against a classical backdrop.

Bauhaus Christmas Market – A Special

A highlight of the Weimar Christmas is the Bauhaus Christmas Market on December 5, 2026, held at the Bauhaus University Weimar in the Mensa Am Park (Marienstraße 15). Here, the Bauhaus.Atelier behind the main building offers food and refreshments – a modern contrast to the classic Advent market.

Program in front of the Goethe House

Handicraft and mulled wine stalls invite you in front of the Goethe House. Choirs and musicians perform daily in front of the magnificent Christmas tree on the Market Square and in front of the Town Hall. A fairy tale hut offers entertainment for the younger guests.

Arrival and City Walk

As an independent city in the heart of Thuringia, Weimar is excellently accessible by train – ICE stop directly at the station. From the main station, it is a 10-minute walk to the Market Square. The market logically connects with a walk through the UNESCO World Heritage old town (Goethe House, Schiller House, Anna Amalia Library).
