About Weimar Christmas

From November 24, 2026, to January 3, 2027, the Weimar Christmas transforms the historic city center of the cultural city of Weimar into an expansive Christmas market. Illuminated rows of stalls with handicrafts, mulled wine, and Thuringian specialties stretch from the Market Square to Herder Square and Theater Square. An ice rink at the Goethe-Schiller Monument, the Bauhaus Christmas Market Special at the Bauhaus University, and choir performances in front of the festively decorated Christmas tree characterize the Advent magic in the independent city of Weimar.

The Weimar Christmas 2026/27 runs from November 24 to January 3. Market Square, Herder Square, and Theater Square become a large Christmas market with an ice rink, fairy tale hut, and daily stage program. Free admission. Closed on December 24/25 and January 1.

Six Weeks of Advent in the UNESCO City

The Weimar Christmas extends over six weeks from the last weekend of November until the new year 2027. Rows of stalls connect the central squares of the UNESCO World Heritage old town into a large festive mile.

The Weimar Christmas extends from November 24, 2026, into the new year 2027, combining a historic backdrop with vibrant city life.

Three Squares, One Festive Mile

The rows of stalls extend from the Market Square with the Town Hall, across Herder Square with St. Peter and Paul's Church, to Theater Square with the German National Theatre. In front of the Goethe-Schiller Monument, an ice rink invites you to go ice skating – one of the most beautiful ice rinks in Central Germany against a classical backdrop.

Bauhaus Christmas Market – A Special

A highlight of the Weimar Christmas is the Bauhaus Christmas Market on December 5, 2026, held at the Bauhaus University Weimar in the Mensa Am Park (Marienstraße 15). Here, the Bauhaus.Atelier behind the main building offers food and refreshments – a modern contrast to the classic Advent market.

Program in front of the Goethe House

Handicraft and mulled wine stalls invite you in front of the Goethe House. Choirs and musicians perform daily in front of the magnificent Christmas tree on the Market Square and in front of the Town Hall. A fairy tale hut offers entertainment for the younger guests.

Arrival and City Walk

As an independent city in the heart of Thuringia, Weimar is excellently accessible by train – ICE stop directly at the station. From the main station, it is a 10-minute walk to the Market Square. The market logically connects with a walk through the UNESCO World Heritage old town (Goethe House, Schiller House, Anna Amalia Library).
