Advent Market in a Baroque Castle Setting

Weilburg an der Lahn is one of the most beautiful castle towns in Hesse – with the Weilburg Castle, Hesse's only city castle on an island in a loop of the Lahn, and a historic old town that winds in an arc around the castle. The traditional Christmas market on the market square takes up this backdrop: around 45 wooden chalets are lined up under a canopy of lights, with the half-timbered facades of the old town in the background, and the castle within sight.

Two Advent Weekends

Unlike most Advent markets, which run continuously, the Weilburg market is limited to two extended weekends in mid-Advent: from Friday, December 11th, to Sunday, December 13th, and from Friday, December 18th, to Sunday, December 20th, 2026. This creates a special atmospheric effect: those who miss the market on a given weekend have missed it entirely – a contrast to the continuous operation of Christmas markets in large cities.

45 Wooden Chalets Under a Light Tent

Approximately 45 lovingly decorated wooden chalets with fir greenery, fairy lights, and Advent decorations form the heart of the market. The offerings range from handmade jewelry and leather goods to woolens, wooden decorations, and homemade specialties. A light tent hangs over the market, bathing the square in warm light even during snowfall.

Culinary Delights and Family Program

At the food stalls, you'll find roasted almonds, freshly baked waffles and crêpes, mulled wine, fruit punch, as well as hearty classics like potato spirals, fries, and bratwurst. For children, there's a nostalgic carousel. Live music with choirs, brass bands, and regional acts is performed on stage.

Weilburg – The Castle Town

For those staying longer in Weilburg: Weilburg Castle with its Renaissance courtyards, the English-style castle garden, the historic Lahn river lock and lift system in Weilburg-Stadt, and the *Reizgrotte* (Grotto of Enchantment) in the town forest complement the Advent market experience. The castle also hosts its own events during Advent, such as Advent concerts and special guided tours.
