Wine festival under the Linden trees in the baroque Weilburg Palace Square
Weilburg is one of the most beautiful palace towns in Middle Hesse. The baroque palace sits enthroned on a rocky spur above the Lahn river; in front of it lies the Schlossplatz „Unter den Linden“ (Palace Square „Under the Linden Trees“) – a square seemingly frozen in the 18th century. It is precisely here that the KLA (Kommerz- und Lions-Ausschuss, or Weilburg Business and Lions Committee) sets up its wine festival every year in mid-May. 2026 marks the 32nd edition.
Instead of an anonymous big-city wine festival, the KLA Wine Festival focuses on a clear roster of regional and neighboring producers. Participating in 2026: Weingut Knobloch, Weingut Seck, Weingut Kilian Bopp, Weingut Enk, Weinfachhandel Schuster, the Oberlahn-Winzer (a collective of several producers from the Lahn valley), and the Lions-Club Weilburg with its own stand. Those who want to sample Riesling, Silvaner, Burgundy varieties, or sparkling wine from Rheinhessen, the Middle Rhine, and the local region will find a compact selection here.
The culinary offerings match the relaxed atmosphere of the festival: Flammkuchen, bratwurst, currywurst, steak rolls, lamb and game sausage, garlic baguette, crêpes. Nothing more is needed – Weilburg is a wine festival, not a gourmet market.
In the evenings, bands play on the stage at the Schlossplatz, performing classic cover repertoire and regional acts. A highlight for many is the Sunday shopping day on May 17th from 12 PM to 6 PM: Weilburg's shops open their doors, the old town fills with strollers, and wine and shopping combine to create the complete Weilburg experience.
Visitors arriving from Frankfurt, the Rheingau, or Wetzlar can ideally combine their visit to the wine festival with a palace tour. The Weilburg Baroque Palace, with its honorary courtyard, palace gardens, and ship tunnel, is one of the few completely preserved baroque residences in Hesse – making Sunday a mini cultural weekend with wine and architecture.
Classic setup: Opening on Ascension Day/Father's Day (Thursday) in the early evening, main event over the extended weekend, culminating on the Sunday with shops open.
Participating vendors: Weingut Knobloch, Weingut Seck, Weingut Kilian Bopp, Weingut Enk, Weinfachhandel Schuster, Oberlahn-Winzer, Lions-Club Weilburg.
Free admission. Festival glass with deposit. Wines and food are paid for on-site.
By train: Weilburg station on the Lahntalbahn line (Limburg–Wetzlar–Gießen), 10 minutes' walk to the old town. By car: A3 exit Limburg-Nord, then B49. Parking around the old town (limited on weekends).
Free. Wines and food are paid for on-site. Festival glasses available with a deposit.
May 17, 2026, 12 PM–6 PM: Shops in Weilburg's city center are open.
