Fourth edition of the spring shooting competition at the Schützenhaus Coppenbrügge
The Coppenbrügge Shooting Club was founded in 1848, making it one of the oldest clubs in the municipality. Over the decades, it has taken on the preservation of shooting traditions, the promotion of sport shooting, and the social function of vibrant village life. With the 'Schuss in den Mai' format, the club has taken a step towards greater visibility and openness since 2023 – a low-threshold offer that also allows non-members and potential interested parties access to the sport of shooting.
The 'Schuss in den Mai' is conceived as a social competition with sporting ambition, but without the pressure of a major championship format. Shooting takes place in several disciplines, depending on the participants' choices: air rifle, air pistol, and, depending on availability, small-bore rifle. Each participant completes a set number of scoring shots, the results are collected, and announced afterwards at the awards ceremony.
The Coppenbrügge Schützenhaus on Osterstraße 28 serves as both the club's headquarters and the competition venue. It features modern indoor shooting ranges with electronic scoring, a guest lounge, a hall for club evenings, and an adjacent outdoor area. Its location on the outskirts ensures short distances for members from Coppenbrügge and good accessibility for guests from neighboring towns.
Sport shooting is deeply rooted in Lower Saxony. Shooting clubs play a central role in village and small-town club life, often complementing their sporting activities with traditional shooting festivals, social gatherings, hiking days, and anniversary celebrations. Coppenbrügge follows this pattern, combining sporting competition with social get-togethers.
The fourth edition of 'Schuss in den Mai' solidifies the format and brings the tradition into its fourth year of development. The results are traditionally published on the club's website schuetzenverein-coppenbruegge.de. Anyone interested in trying out shooting on a regular range is invited to contact the club's board – trial training sessions for interested parties can be arranged.
The exact competition disciplines, start times, and registration details will be published by the club in spring 2026 on schuetzenverein-coppenbruegge.de. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years.
