The Weddingmarkt since 2013
The Weddingmarkt has been held every month since 2013 — initially as part of alternative art and creative markets, now as a fixture in the Berlin indie design calendar. The market is recognizable by its typical triangular stands, which the team designed themselves — they visually distinguish the Weddingmarkt from any other Berlin market. The market is organized by a collective from Wedding, bringing together designers, artisans, and small manufacturers from Berlin.
The Urban Day 2026 — Season opener at Leopoldplatz
For 2026, the Weddingmarkt is starting a new phase: from January, the organizers will be taking over Leopoldplatz — one of the most important public squares in the Wedding neighborhood, long discussed as a hotspot. With the Urban Day on May 29, 2026 (Neighborhood Day), they are giving the new use of the square a first festive setting: a design market with around 100 exhibitors, street food, a stage, and a children's program.
What's on offer
Unlike the commercial Berlin design markets (Bread & Butter, Premium), the Weddingmarkt remains unpretentious and approachable. The exhibitors are predominantly solo designers from Berlin: jewelry made from recycled silver, handmade bags, ceramics from Kreuzberg workshops, graphic prints, small-batch fashion, furniture objects. Prices are moderate — most items under €100, many under €50.
Neighborhood Day
The Urban Day in 2026 falls on Neighborhood Day, a Europe-wide day of action where initiatives promote encounters in residential areas. The Rollbergkiez neighborhood management is organizing a soup festival at the Rollberg Paradise community garden at the same time — soup tasting, live music, children's program. Anyone spending the day in the Mitte district can combine both events.
Wedding in transition
The Wedding district has changed significantly in the last ten years — from a working-class district considered problematic to a lively, multicultural neighborhood with a young art and design scene. The Weddingmarkt is a visible part of this transformation. Leopoldplatz, long in the shadow of gentrification, is set to become part of this change itself with the new programming in 2026.
Weddingmarkt Urban Day — edition 2026
The Urban Day 2026 is part of the season takeover of Leopoldplatz by the Weddingmarkt, which has taken responsibility for the square since January 2026. The concept: flea market, weekly market, cultural events, and design market alternating monthly throughout the summer.
The Urban Day on May 29 also falls on the European Neighborhood Day — which thematically connects the market with a second event strand: The Rollbergkiez neighborhood management is organizing the soup festival at the Rollberg Paradise community garden (Roland-Krüger-Straße 6) on the same day with soup tasting, live music, and a children's program. Both events are located in the Mitte district and are within walking distance.
Programme Weddingmarkt Urban Day 2026
Detailed program 2026 will be published in April/May on wedding-markt.de. Based on experience, the structure of the Urban Day:
- 11:00 AM — Setup and first stands open
- 12:00 PM–6:00 PM — Market: approx. 100 exhibitors in an open market setup on Leopoldplatz
- 12:00 PM–6:00 PM — Street Food: Food truck lane with approx. 8–12 vendors from Wedding and Mitte
- 2:00 PM — Stage: small music program (acoustic, DJ sets), children's activities with the local daycare
- 4:00 PM — Presentation of Leopoldplatz Concept: organizers explain what will happen on the square until the end of the year
- 6:00 PM — End
Parallel — Soup Festival at Rollberg Paradise (Roland-Krüger-Straße 6): Rollbergkiez neighborhood management organizes soup tasting, live music, children's program for Neighborhood Day. Program: das-fest-der-nachbarn.de.
Exhibitor focus: Berlin designers, crafts, small-batch fashion, jewelry, graphic prints, ceramics. Moderate prices, large majority under €100.
