Three-day folk and marksmen's festival with carousels, dodgems, and suckling pig Sunday
The Hittfeld and surrounding area marksmen's club was founded in 1879, making it one of the oldest marksmen's clubs in the northern Harburg district. For almost 150 years, the club has shaped marksmanship traditions in Hittfeld and developed the annual folk and marksmen's festival into a firm highlight in the region's event calendar.
Friday to Sunday form the framework of the festival. Friday opens with the King's shooting competition and the festival dance in the marquee; Saturday features the parade, the King's ball, and the full folk festival program; Sunday concludes with the traditional suckling pig, the large flea market, and the proclamation of the new king.
A special feature of the Hittfeld festival is its distinct folk festival component. Carousels, dodgems, rides, and amusement stalls give the marksmen's festival the character of a classic North German fair. Families with children will find a varied summer experience here.
A culinary tradition of the Hittfeld marksmen's festival is Suckling Pig Sunday. A crispy suckling pig is served in the large marquee, with side dishes and beer – a gastronomic highlight that makes Sunday afternoon in the marquee a convivial experience.
The large flea market on Meyermannsweg on Sunday attracts additional visitors. Private individuals and dealers offer antiques, bric-a-brac, collectibles, and curiosities. The combination of marksmen's festival, folk festival, and flea market makes the Hittfeld festival a special experience.
The 2026 edition continues the club's 147-year tradition. With carousels, dodgems, and amusement stalls, the marksmen's festival is evolving into a true folk festival with a fairground character, attracting families and young people alike.
Suckling Pig Sunday and the large flea market are the culinary and tourist highlights, drawing additional guests from the greater Hamburg area to Hittfeld.
