Three stages, six bands — Open-air rock night in the mystical castle setting on the banks of the Mulde
Walpurgisnacht, the night of April 30th to May 1st, has been considered the night when witches gather on the Brocken in the Harz mountains and spring is invoked since the Middle Ages. In Protestant Saxony, it became a popular celebration of the start of summer. At Schloss Trebsen, this tradition has been combined with a rock concert for years: instead of witch fires and folk music, there is symphonic metal, blues, rock'n'roll, and jazz against a mystical castle backdrop.
The 2026 festival is spread across three stages — a main stage in the castle courtyard, a second stage in the covered hall of the castle, and a smaller open-air stage in the park. Six bands will play various styles: symphonic metal, folk metal, blues-rock, rock'n'roll, jazz, and party rock. This diversity is programmatic — Walpurgisnacht-Rock does not aim to be a pure metal festival, but offers a broad mix that covers the entire spectrum of rock music.
Haggard, founded in 1991 in Munich, is one of the most peculiar bands in the symphonic metal scene. With classical instruments (violins, cello, harpsichord) and medieval storytelling, they combine metal with baroque and classical music. The band became known through albums like «Awaking the Centuries» (2000), «Eppur Si Muove» (2004), and «Tales of Ithiria» (2008). At Schloss Trebsen on April 30, 2026, Haggard will perform as headliner — an unusual combination of medieval castle setting and symphonic metal music that makes the festival a special experience.
Schloss Trebsen is located directly on the banks of the Vereinigte Mulde in Trebsen, a small town in the Leipzig district. The castle complex dates back to the 13th century and was extensively rebuilt during the Renaissance. Today, the castle hosts various cultural events, including concerts, exhibitions, weddings, and receptions. The park on the banks of the Mulde, the castle courtyard, and the historic halls together form an impressive setting for the festival.
Trebsen is located in the Muldental valley in the Leipzig district, about 30 km east of Leipzig in the state of Saxony. The town is small (around 4,000 inhabitants) and quiet; the castle complex is its most important cultural attraction. Those arriving for the festival can easily combine it with a day trip to the Muldental valley — Mildenstein Castle in Leisnig, Buch Monastery, or the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Meissen are all nearby.
The 2026 edition of Walpurgisnacht-Rock offers a deliberately broad musical spectrum. On three stages in the castle courtyard, the covered hall, and the park, six bands will play across the rock spectrum — symphonic metal by Haggard, folk metal, blues-rock by The Good Ol' Blues Brothers Boys Band, jazz-punk by Die JAZZPOLIZEI, rock'n'roll by The Aberlour's, indie-rock by Factory of Art, and party rock by Die Eis Boys. Starts at 6 PM, the last set is expected to end around midnight.
