Klosterkirche St. Augustin — Gothic Acoustics

The Klosterkirche St. Augustin in Grimma is one of the most important late Gothic hall churches in Saxony. Built between 1283 and the 16th century for the Augustinian monastery of Grimma, it was rededicated as the Protestant town church after the Reformation. Its large, narrow hall with high tracery windows, the Baroque altar, and the famous organ form an extraordinary acoustic setting: the cool atmosphere, the long reverberation times, and the unusual room acoustics make the church one of the most beautiful concert venues in Saxony.

2026 Concert Series — From Choir to Rock Tribute

The 2026 summer concert series spans an unusually wide range — from early chamber music to modern pop. The concerts confirmed so far:

• May 15, 2026 — The Gregorian Voices under the artistic direction of Oleksiy Semenchuk. Ukrainian choir ensemble combining Gregorian chant with contemporary pop arrangements.
• July 20, 2026 — Tenöre4you with Toni Di Napoli and Pietro Pato. Perfect pop-classical mix with magnificent, first-class live vocals in the Italian singing style — classics of the Italian operetta repertoire alongside pop hits.
• Romantic Concert with members of the MDR Radio Choir. Madrigals and songs by Carlo Gesualdo, Orlando di Lasso, Robert Schumann, and Max Reger in the impressive acoustics of the monastery church.
• Coldplay tribute concert — the greatest hits live and full of energy, in the late Gothic church setting.
• Amy Winehouse & Sting Tribute — two voices, two styles, an extraordinary homage.

Grimma — Town on the Mulde River

Grimma, located about 30 kilometers southeast of Leipzig on the Mulde River, is the administrative seat of the Leipzig district and one of the oldest towns in Saxony. The monastery church is located in the immediate vicinity of Kloster Nimbschen (former Cistercian nunnery where Katharina von Bora — Luther's later wife — lived as a nun) and the Frauenkirche Grimma. Those attending a summer concert should plan half a day for the old town with its town hall, monastery church, and Mulde promenade.
