Upper Palatinate Kirwa Tradition
The 'Kirwa' – the Upper Palatinate form of Kirchweih – is one of the most important traditional festivals in the region. In Wackersdorf, a municipality in the Schwandorf district of the Upper Palatinate, Bavaria, the 'Glück-Auf' Wackersdorf Youth Club and its girls' group host the Kirwa every year at the beginning of July. The name 'Glück Auf' is a nod to the region's mining history.

Young Men, Young Women, and Customs
At the heart of the Upper Palatinate Kirwa are the Kirwaburschen (young men) and Kirwamadli (young women), who erect the Kirwabaum in traditional costume and perform the traditional 'Austanzen' (dance around the tree), thereby preserving the customs. This vibrant tradition is passed down from generation to generation by the Youth Club.
