Electronic open-air festival on the Allstedt airfield
The Allstedt airfield in southern Saxony-Anhalt is an active traffic airfield — and once a year for a long weekend, it becomes a large open-air stage. The Tarmac Festival uses the runway, apron, and hangar as a spatially impressive backdrop for a program of Techno, House, and electronic crossover acts. With a capacity of around 3,000 visitors, Tarmac positions itself between underground rave and curated festival format — manageable, yet ambitious.
Instead of a single main stage, the festival features several floors that utilize the area from the hangar to the open space. The organizer is LER — Luftfahrt & Eventmanagement Reinicke, the team around the Allstedt airfield. The idea: a place actually built for airplanes becomes a sound-architectural playground. Camping directly at the festival, several bars, curated food offerings.
Allstedt is located in the Mansfeld-Südharz district in the state of Saxony-Anhalt — a region rich in tradition, which has combined copper mining, the Reformation, and customs since the Middle Ages with Lutherstadt Eisleben (Luther's birthplace and deathplace), Sangerhausen, and the Mansfelder Land. Allstedt itself is known for its castle, where Thomas Müntzer held his famous "Sermon to the Princes" in 1524 — historic ground that now also experiences electronic sound.
