An entire street celebrates
When Wachmannstraße is closed to traffic on the last Saturday before the summer holidays, one of the liveliest street festivals in the state of Bremen begins. From Benqueplatz far into Wachmannstraße – the shopping street stretches between Stern and Schwachhauser Ring – a colorful program lines up: flea market stalls, live music on the stage, gastronomy from waffles to burgers, cultural contributions, and numerous hands-on activities for families. Many shops in the neighborhood participate with extended opening hours and special promotions.
A club born out of necessity
The festival is organized by the association Die Wachmannstraße e.V., in which around 110 residents and business people are committed to their street and neighborhood – something unique in this form in Bremen. The association was founded in 2001 when the tram tracks had to be renewed and laid further apart, which would have paralyzed the street for a year and a half. This common resistance grew into a lasting commitment to a lively neighborhood, which is also reflected today in a sustainability market in the spring on Benqueplatz.
Tangible neighborhood spirit
A special highlight is the Human Table Soccer tournament – table football with real people, five against five, where rule violations are sometimes punished with a water pistol. It is traditionally held the following day on Benqueplatz and makes the festival a weekend experience. In this way, the Wachmannstraßenfest charmingly combines shopping street, culture, and neighborhood.
Schwachhausen – bourgeois Bremen
Schwachhausen is considered one of Bremen's greenest and most bourgeois districts, characterized by old Bremen houses and avenues. Wachmannstraße itself is known for its open, personal atmosphere, with a mix of gifts, flowers, fashion, wine, delicacies, and bicycles. The Wachmannstraßenfest brings a touch of hustle and bustle and community spirit to the otherwise quiet residential area – a likeable, family-friendly festival with Hanseatic understatement, bringing together neighbors and guests from all over Bremen.
Wachmannstraßenfest — edition 2026
On Saturday, June 27, 2026, Wachmannstraße will transform into a vibrant festival mile from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM. From Benqueplatz onwards, flea market stalls, a live music stage, gastronomy from waffles to burgers, cultural contributions, and hands-on activities for families will line up; many shops will open with special promotions. The organizer is the association Die Wachmannstraße e.V. On Sunday, June 28, the popular Human Table Soccer tournament will follow on Benqueplatz. Admission is free.

Popular tournament for adults: five against five players on an oversized table football field. Rule violations are punished with water pistols – guaranteed to provide lots of laughter and wet plays.
Organized by the association Die Wachmannstraße e.V. The stage schedule and final band order will be published in advance on diewachmannstrasse.de.
