Seasonal start of chocolate tasting at GenussLaden with coffee bar and market atmosphere
Over the years, GenussLaden Altenglan has become one of the premier destinations for high-quality chocolates and pralines in the Westpfalz region. In its unassuming premises at Kuseler Straße 13, directly on the B420 between Kusel and Glan-Münchweiler, chocolate lovers will find a selection that is unique in this rural area: bar chocolates from French, Belgian, Swiss, and Italian manufactories, handmade pralines, bean-to-bar chocolates, single-origin specialties, and seasonal highlights.
Since many chocolates cannot be sold year-round for quality reasons—summer heat alters consistency and aroma—the chocolate season traditionally starts in September. GenussLaden uses this season opening to make it a fixed date in the region's event calendar. The Schokoladenfest on the second Saturday in September invites you from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to discover the fresh assortment, try new products, and receive personal recommendations from the owner and his team.
The focus is on tastings. Visitors can sample various chocolates directly in the shop, learn about the differences between manufactories, cocoa percentages, single origins, and refining techniques, and receive advice. A coffee bar specially set up for the festival day serves high-quality coffees that can be paired with the chocolates—an exciting exercise in pairing that surprises even inexperienced connoisseurs. Pralines and truffles are presented fresh, many in limited editions and available only on the festival day.
Over the years, the Schokoladenfest has become a meeting point for connoisseurs from all over the Westpfalz and the neighboring Saarland. Regular customers return, new visitors discover the diversity of chocolate culture, and the personal atmosphere of this small festival is a welcome contrast to large commercial events. Admission is free—you only pay for the chocolates and drinks you purchase.
On September 12th, the 2026 Schokoladenfest falls on the second Saturday of the month, as usual. GenussLaden is preparing for a busy day: Fresh deliveries from manufactories in France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Italy will have arrived, the assortment for the cold season will be complete, and the staff will be available for detailed consultations.
