Open-air theatre by the Bremer Shakespeare Company in Bürgerpark
Bremen's Bürgerpark is one of Germany's most beautiful urban parks – and in midsummer, it's the venue for Shakespeare im Park. On the Melcherswiese meadow, in front of the Melchersbrücke bridge, the Bremer Shakespeare Company sets up its open-air stage and performs a packed programme over almost two weeks: Shakespearean classics meet modern themes, tragedies meet comedies, German-language productions meet performances in English.
The Bremer Shakespeare Company is an internationally renowned ensemble that has stood for a vibrant, accessible interpretation of Shakespeare for decades. Plenty of chairs are available on the Melcherswiese meadow, picnics are allowed, and there are refreshments on site – theatre here becomes a relaxed summer evening experience in the green.
Shakespeare im Park has been a staple of Bremen's cultural summer since the 1990s and celebrates a round anniversary as an open-air format. The repertoire regularly includes plays such as A Midsummer Night's Dream, Medea, The Winter's Tale, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, or Macbeth – including English-language performances for an international audience.
The Bürgerpark in the Schwachhausen district is easily accessible yet a green oasis. Those who want to experience theatre not in a classic hall, but under trees and the summer sky, will find a festival with a very special atmosphere at Shakespeare im Park.
From August 20 to 31, 2026, the Bremer Shakespeare Company will transform the Melcherswiese meadow in Bürgerpark into an open-air stage. An anniversary gala is part of the programme. Performances usually start at 7:30 PM; tickets are available from the Bremer Shakespeare Company. The full programme will be published in advance.
For its 30th anniversary, the Bremer Shakespeare Company will perform around fifteen shows over twelve days on the Melcherswiese meadow next to the Melchersbrücke bridge. The focus is on a broad repertoire of Shakespearean classics, modern themes, and guest performances.
