Three evenings of artistic film perspectives at Brotfabrik Kino on Caligariplatz
Brotfabrik Kino, located in the former Schauberger's Bread Factory on Caligariplatz, is one of the more understated venues in Berlin's art-house cinema scene: 60 seats, careful curation, with a focus on documentary, artistic, and experimental films beyond the mainstream distribution. This is precisely where the artspring Film Festival takes place – as a three-day film trip within the larger art and culture series, artspring.
Over three evenings (each starting at 6 PM), the festival will screen films ranging from 3-minute experimental shorts to 37-minute documentaries. Thematically, the focus is on migration narratives, digital identity, historical traumas, and political resistance. Formally, surreal imagery, archival collages, personal essays, and political statements alternate. After each screening, there will be a film discussion with filmmakers and the audience – one of the festival's most significant added values.
The film festival is part of artspring berlin, an annual cultural series in the Pankow district that has brought together visual arts, performance, music, and film for ten years. With the anniversary motto 'Kein Ruder war nicht dran', artspring 2026 signals artistic diversity – the film festival is the three-day film component.
The Weißensee district in Pankow is one of Berlin's most exciting cultural hubs: art academy, Jewish cemetery, Brotfabrik, artist studios, lively neighborhood bars. Sitting at Brotfabrik Kino on Caligariplatz places you right in the middle of a scene that has grown over decades without major media attention – and which the artspring festival charmingly brings together.
Screenings daily at 6:00 PM. The films address migration narratives, digital identity, historical traumas, and political resistance. After each program block, a moderated film discussion with filmmakers follows.
Reservation directly with the cinema or via the artspring website: artspring.berlin/filmfestival-2026.
