Germany's largest children's festival in Bremen's Bürgerpark
When the stages are set up at the Marcusbrunnen in Bremen's Bürgerpark in mid-August, bouncy castles, craft stalls, and sports courses are added, it's clear: it's time again for the Bremer Kindertag. The Landesbetriebssportverband Bremen e.V. has been organizing this festival since 1990, which has long since developed into Germany's largest children's event. Around 50,000 guests, more than 80 clubs and organizations from all over Germany, around 700 volunteers – the numbers speak for themselves.
The Bremer Kindertag is more than just a fun event. Under the motto "Making Children Strong", the event sees itself as a prevention initiative: Children playfully and age-appropriately experience how important self-confidence, exercise, and communication skills are for positive self-esteem. Sports clubs offer hands-on activities, social projects present their work, and theater groups and musicians perform on stage.
The annual highlight is the presentation of the Kinderoskar (Children's Oscar) – an award for individuals and organizations particularly committed to children's issues. In addition, performances by dance and sports groups, concerts with Frank und seine Freunde, and children's songs by Christian Bakotessa are part of the regular program. The Landesbetriebssportverband coordinates everything – festival founder Lothar Pohlmann's nickname: "Father of the Children's Day".
Admission is free. Bürgerpark, one of Germany's largest inner-city parks, offers the ideal setting: plenty of space to play, shade under old trees, and easy accessibility from the main train station. Bremer Kindertag is traditionally supported by the WESER-KURIER and the radio station Teddy.
For seven hours – from 11 AM to 6 PM – Bremen's Bürgerpark transforms into a huge playground for participation. Sports clubs set up courses, dance groups perform on stage, and social projects present themselves. On the main stage, Frank und seine Freunde present their show, and Christian Bakotessa sings children's songs to sing along to.
As every year, the Kinderoskar (Children's Oscar) will be awarded in 2026 – a prize with which the Landesbetriebssportverband Bremen honors people and organizations who are particularly committed to children's issues.
As always, admission to Bremer Kindertag is free – the event relies on the volunteer commitment and support of sponsors WESER-KURIER and radio station Teddy.
On Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the 33rd Bremer Kindertag will transform Bürgerpark around Marcusbrunnen into Germany's largest children's festival. The organizer is the Landesbetriebssportverband Bremen e.V. (LBSV), motto: "Making Children Strong". Free admission.
The complete stage timetable with all performance times will be published by the LBSV shortly before the festival day on bremer-kindertag.de.
