The VR Bank-OpenAir 2026 runs from Friday, June 5th to Sunday, June 7th at Jägersburg Castle in Eggolsheim. Three concert evenings: Bamberg Symphony Orchestra (Beethoven & Mozart with Tianwa Yang), Forchheim Wind Philharmonic (Magic Musical Moments), and the family pop trio DEINE FREUNDE.

VR Bank Bamberg-Forchheim eG and Veranstaltungsservice Bamberg confirm the 2026 OpenAir from June 5th-7th in Eggolsheim. The opening on Friday evening will be by the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dinis Sousa, with works by Beethoven and Mozart; the highlight is Beethoven's Violin Concerto with violinist Tianwa Yang. On Saturday evening, the Forchheim Wind Philharmonic (approx. 70 musicians) will present Magic Musical Moments, a program of popular musical highlights. The closing on Sunday is a family concert by DEINE FREUNDE from the "Kindsköpfe im Park" series.

Getting There

By Car: Take the A73 Bamberg–Nuremberg, exit Forchheim-Süd / Eggolsheim, then follow signs for Schloss Jägersburg. Parking is available at the castle and designated external parking areas.

By Train: Forchheim station, then take special buses to the castle or a taxi.

Open Air in a Baroque Setting

The VR Bank-OpenAir at Jägersburg Castle is one of the most beautiful open-air venues in Upper Franconia. Jägersburg Castle is a baroque complex in Eggolsheim, south of Forchheim, with a spacious castle park – ideal as a natural backdrop for large events with seated audiences. The main organizer is VR Bank Bamberg-Forchheim eG, with organizational support from Veranstaltungsservice Bamberg.

Three Evenings, Three Programs

The series is intentionally not designed as a single-themed festival, but rather as a colorful, mixed castle season in miniature:

Classical Evening with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra – one of Germany's most renowned orchestras. The 2026 program features works by Beethoven and Mozart, with Beethoven's Violin Concerto as the highlight, performed by the internationally acclaimed violinist Tianwa Yang.
Magic Musical Moments: Around 70 musicians from the Forchheim Wind Philharmonic will perform highlights from popular musicals – The Greatest Showman, The Phantom of the Opera, Dance of the Vampires, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia, Cats.
Kindsköpfe im Park with DEINE FREUNDE: The popular children's and family pop trio brings its summer open-air program to the castle gardens – pop for children with an ironic wink for the parents.

A Festival Series with a Clear Target Audience

Unlike traditional festivals, the VR Bank-OpenAir targets a mature audience from the Bamberg-Forchheim region and families. Around 2,000 listeners are expected on the opening night. The format – one concert per evening, classical seating in the castle gardens, high-quality sound system, on-site catering – ensures a calm, high-quality listening experience. In case of bad weather, replacement dates or weather arrangements will be communicated via the VR Bank website.

Jägersburg Castle as a Venue

Jägersburg Castle is one of the impressive architectural monuments of the Franconian Switzerland / northern Bamberg-Forchheim region. It is currently used for gastronomy and is open for events. Its location between Forchheim and Bamberg makes the castle reachable in under an hour from Nuremberg, Erlangen, and Würzburg. The region is also known for its beer culture – breweries in Eggolsheim, Forchheim, and the surrounding area are a must-visit during the open-air weekend.
