Theatre, Musicals, and Concerts in Hall 207 of the former Neptunwerft
The Volkstheatersommer is the major open-air and indoor season of the Volkstheater Rostock. The venue is Hall 207 on the grounds of the former Neptunwerft in the Werftviertel district of the Hanseatic city of Rostock. The hall was built in 1911 as a shipbuilding forge and today stands as an industrial monument to the city's maritime history. Its raw, expansive architecture makes it one of the most unusual venues in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
In 2026, Volkstheater Rostock will transform Hall 207 for the tenth consecutive year into a space for theatre, music, and culture. What began as a smaller summer format has grown over the years into a multi-week festival, running from early June to mid-September, uniting musicals, concerts, and crossover under one roof.
The focus is on the grand summer musicals featuring hits from entire decades. In 2026, "Millennium" will transport audiences with hits from the late 1990s, "The Time is Now" will bring together hits from the early 2000s, and the internationally renowned family musical "The Addams Family" is also on the program. The productions combine live vocals, a band, and dance against the industrial backdrop of the shipyard hall.
In addition to the musicals, the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock will perform in Hall 207 with philharmonic concerts. In 2026, works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Gustav Mahler, and Leonard Bernstein are scheduled. A highlight is the "Groove Symphony," where the electronica duo Dapayk & Padberg combines club and classical music with the orchestra.
Hall 207 is located on Hellingstrasse on the Warnow riverbank and is accessible by tram and bus. Tickets are valid as public transport tickets in Rostock on the day of the event. Tickets are available at the theatre box office on Doberaner Strasse and online via Volkstheater Rostock.
