About World Music Nights

For almost two decades, Kultur Siegen has been bringing international artists to the university city for the World Music Nights — from English folk duos to Azerbaijani Mugham, from Scandinavian avant-garde to Kurdish-Iraqi soundscapes. The concerts take place in various, often intimate venues: Café Flocke, Oraniersaal of the Siegerlandmuseum, Lesecafé in the Krönchencenter, Zeltarena in the Schlosspark. Four concerts are scheduled for 2026, with free admission.

A Series That Makes Siegen Cosmopolitan

The World Music Nights are the heart of Siegen's cultural dialogue with the world. For almost twenty years, the series has brought musicians from the most diverse traditions to the Siegerland region — in a way that is usually only achieved by major festival halls elsewhere. The organizer is Kultur Siegen, a department of the university city, supported by the Volkshochschule, the Siegerlandmuseum, and local establishments.

Folk, Mugham, and More — The 2026 Program

The 2026 season opens in June in the Schlosspark and concludes in November at the Krönchencenter. Four concerts are currently announced:

  • Sat 13.06.2026, 5 PM — Senase Trio (Zeltarena Schlosspark)
  • Fri 11.09.2026 — The Rheingans Sisters (UK), English folk at Café Flocke
  • Fri 16.10.2026, 6 PM — Selawy & Hamboz (Oraniersaal Siegerlandmuseum)
  • Mon 16.11.2026, 7 PM — Duò Lavoà Lapò (Lesecafé Krönchencenter)

In the spring of 2026, Tante Friedl (Verstärker/Reichwalds Ecke, 03/07) and Nisbet Sedrayeva with Azerbaijani Mugham (Lesecafé Krönchencenter, 04/20) also opened the season.

Various Venues — Deliberately Not a Concert Hall

The concept of the series is unusual: instead of a fixed venue, the World Music Nights move around the city. Café Flocke on Häutebachweg is an alternative pub, the Lesecafé in the Krönchencenter is centrally located at the Krönchengalerie, the Oraniersaal is part of the Siegerlandmuseum in the Oberes Schloss, and the Zeltarena in the Schlosspark is set up for summer concerts. This diversity makes each event a unique mini-cultural experience.

Why It Works in Siegen

Siegen is a university city with around 80,000 inhabitants, located in the south of North Rhine-Westphalia, in the Siegerland region — an area historically more Protestant-bourgeois than cosmopolitan. This is precisely where the World Music Nights come in: they open windows to the outside world. Azerbaijani Mugham singers alongside English folk sisters, Italian trio traditions next to Kurdish-Iraqi sounds — a series that shows that "world music" is not a label, but an attitude.
