Neutraubling — the youngest town in the Upper Palatinate

Neutraubling in the Upper Palatinate district of Regensburg is one of Bavaria's youngest towns: founded in 1951 as a settlement for displaced persons, it is now a modern industrial and residential town with around 14,000 inhabitants, located just outside Regensburg. Despite, or perhaps because of, its short history, Neutraubling has developed a vibrant club and event scene, the highlight of which in summer is the Neutraubling Volksfest. The venue is the festival grounds by the lake — an attractive location on the town lake that distinguishes the Volksfest from many other Upper Palatinate Volksfests.

Four days of festivities with a clear program

The Volksfest typically runs from Thursday to Sunday, usually on the second or third weekend in July. Each day has its own profile: Thursday is Business Day with live music in the beer tent, Friday is dedicated to the volunteer fire department — a special anniversary evening and a senior citizens' afternoon shape the program. Saturday is Club Day, traditionally associated with a card tournament and an ecumenical service. Sunday, finally, is Family Day with a children's music program and a grand finale firework display in the evening over the festival grounds by the lake.

Beer tent, rides, and culinary delights

As with a classic Bavarian Volksfest, the large beer tent is the centerpiece: traditional brass music, live bands at the evening events, roast chicken, pork knuckles, and liters of beer. Around the tent, there are rides for all age groups — from the Ferris wheel, bumper cars, and chain carousel to a children's train and classic shooting galleries. In addition to the usual Volksfest specialties, stall operators also offer a wide range of sweets, crêpes, ice cream, and even fish specialties. The direct view of the lake gives the festival grounds an atmosphere that other Upper Palatinate Volksfests do not have.

Difference from the Bürgerfest

Important: The Volksfest is not the Neutraubling Bürgerfest, which takes place in the city center during the same summer. Both festivals have different characters — the Volksfest is more of a classic beer tent festival with rides, while the Bürgerfest is a city center street festival with live music and culinary stalls. Those who want to experience the full Neutraubling festival season can combine both events.
