Atmospheric Advent market around the Alexanderskirche with the world's largest Advent wreath
Since 1978, the Zweibrücken Christmas Market has invited visitors for a festive stroll around the Alexanderskirche on the second and third Advent weekends. The 48th edition will take place on the weekend of December 4th to 6th, 2026, and the weekend of December 11th to 13th, 2026. The market extends across Alexanderplatz and the surrounding alleys, offering a particularly cozy atmosphere with its manageable size, allowing visitors to escape the often hectic hustle and bustle of big-city Christmas markets.
Around fifty festively decorated stalls offer a diverse range of regional specialties, hearty winter dishes, and sweet temptations. Mulled wine, hot chocolate, fresh waffles, roasted almonds, savory bratwurst, and tarte flambée from nearby Alsace are as much a staple as Christmas gift ideas, handmade candles, wooden figures, knitwear, and jewelry. Local choirs, brass ensembles, and school orchestras provide a contemplative mood on stage. Advent songs and classical Christmas music accompany the market stroll, lending the weekend its unmistakable character.
Extraordinary attractions include the world's largest Advent wreath, erected annually in front of the Alexanderskirche, and a viewing gondola that offers its passengers a panoramic view of the illuminated market activities. For the youngest visitors, a heated children's tent with craft activities, storytelling sessions, and small surprises is available. Every Advent Saturday, St. Nicholas personally makes his rounds between eleven and one o'clock, gifting the children with small tokens. The festive illumination of the Alexanderskirche and the historic facades of Alexanderplatz lend the market a very special magic after dark.
The Zweibrücken Christmas Market is firmly anchored in the city's event calendar and is organized by the Culture and Tourism Office of the City of Zweibrücken in close cooperation with local associations, businesses, and church communities. The close connection to the Alexanderskirche, one of the city's oldest buildings, lends the market its spiritual and historical depth. Over the years, the market has become a firm meeting point for the residents of Zweibrücken, the Saarland border region, and the neighboring French region of Moselle.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in late autumn. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
