Traditional folk festival in Amberg with beer tent, rides and fireworks
On September 13, 1364, Elector Ruprecht I granted the citizens of Amberg three "Dulten" and annual fairs – the first market began on the evening of Whit Sunday. This tradition, over 650 years old, lives on today in the Amberger Pfingst-Dult, a modern folk festival that not only preserves but celebrates its historical heritage. The "Dult" takes place twice a year: at Pentecost and in autumn for Michaeli.
In the large beer tent, the Gschrey family of hosts serves the popular Amberger Festbier. Live music and a traditional atmosphere ensure lively evenings. On the festival grounds, modern and classic rides are lined up, complemented by numerous market and snack stalls offering goods and delicacies.
A special highlight is the two large fireworks displays: one for the opening on the first Friday evening and another on the second Friday, both around 10 p.m. They attract visitors from all over the Upper Palatinate and are among the most famous sights of the Amberger Dult. The festival appeals to all generations – from families with children to fans of traditional folk festivals.
From May 22 to 31, 2026, the Dult and exhibition grounds on Bruno-Hofer-Straße will once again transform into a festival site. In the large beer tent, the Gschrey family of hosts serves Amberger Festbier, alongside rides for all age groups and a diverse market.
The fireworks displays on the two Fridays are among the highlights: the opening fireworks on Friday, May 22, around 10 p.m., and a second display on Friday, May 29. The festival combines traditional folk festival atmosphere with modern entertainment for the whole family.
The complete daily program will be published by Amberger Congress Marketing.
The Dult and exhibition grounds are located on Bruno-Hofer-Straße in Amberg, easily accessible by car via the A6/B85. Amberg has a train station with regional connections; it's just a few minutes from the city center to the festival grounds.
