Three days of wine and music in the historic Bielefeld district — German wines, live sets, free entry
Schildesche is one of Bielefeld's oldest districts — first documented in 939, it was an independent market town for a long time before being incorporated into Bielefeld in 1930. Its historic core around the Stiftskirche (Collegiate Church) and the Wetterhäuschen (weather house) has been preserved to this day: narrow alleys, old half-timbered houses, small owner-managed shops. For years, the business association InSchildesche e.V. has organized an event program here with a real recognition value — the Schildesche Wine Days have long been a fixed part of the program.
While other district festivals focus on beer, Schildesche is dedicated to wine — and with a clear program: Focus on German Wines. Several exhibitor stands present a curated selection from German wine-growing regions — Mosel, Rheingau, Pfalz, Baden, Württemberg, Rheinhessen. Riesling and Spätburgunder dominate, but Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Grauburgunder, and new cuvées also find their place. The stand operators are usually from the wine trade themselves and offer advice at eye level — this is not mass processing, but a mini wine fair in the neighborhood.
Parallel to the Wine Days, Sound of Schildesche takes place: a live music program on a small stage that provides the musical accompaniment from Thursday to Saturday, starting at 5:00 PM each day. The program ranges from jazz standards and singer-songwriters to local cover bands — not a festival with top acts, but relaxed background music to accompany a glass of wine. This is precisely what creates the atmosphere.
Food belongs with wine — Schildesche offers both. Local restaurateurs set up stands with regional and Mediterranean specialties: Flammkuchen, Bruschetta, Tapas, cheese platters, pasta. Accompanied by antipasti and bread — everything designed to complement the wine, not overpower it.
If you're looking for an oversized city festival, this is not the place. But if you fancy a relaxed evening with good German wine, live music, and the flair of a historic district, you'll find the Schildesche Wine Days with Sound of Schildesche to be one of Bielefeld's most successful mini-events. Free entry, high standard, familiar atmosphere.
