A Village Fair with Tradition in Upper Swabia
The Vogter Dorfkirbe is one of those classic village festivals that southern Baden-Württemberg loves: not a major tourist event, but an association that opens its doors wide once a year and invites friends, neighbors, and guests from the region for three days of festival tent fun. The Musikverein Vogt e.V. has been organizing the festival for decades, using Le Mayet Platz in the town center as the central stage — named after the French partner municipality Le Mayet-de-Montagne, with which Vogt has had a friendly connection for decades.
Festival Tent, Beer Tapping, and Brass Music
On Friday evening, July 17, 2026, the festival tent opens: the traditional beer tapping marks the start of the Kirbe — the first barrel is tapped, and club members and honored guests toast. Afterwards, a party band or festival band plays late into the night. Saturday evening features the grand brass music evening with invited guest bands from the Upper Swabian region — polkas, marches, Bohemian brass, and modern brass music alternate. Anyone familiar with Upper Swabia knows: a Dorfkirbe without lively brass music is no proper Kirbe.
Sunday with Frühschoppen and Family Festival
Sunday, July 19, 2026, traditionally begins with a church service, after which the music association invites guests to the Frühschoppen in the festival tent. Breakfast buffet, Weißwurst, pretzels, and beer or cider — accompanied by brass music from the Musikverein Vogt itself. In the afternoon, the festival becomes a family day: the amusement park with a carousel, children's swing rides, and snack stands creates a festive atmosphere for the youngest visitors, while adults relax and chat in the festival tent. The festival remains in full swing throughout Sunday before slowly winding down in the evening.
A Festival That Holds the Community Together
With around 4,500 inhabitants, Vogt is a small community — and the Dorfkirbe is one of those moments when almost everyone in town meets. The music association, as the organizer, finances a large part of its annual work with the proceeds: youth training, instruments, rehearsal work. For visitors, it is an authentic festival away from the major event calendars — an opportunity to experience the rural festival culture of the Schussental valley for three days in one of Upper Swabia's most beautiful landscapes.
