The big city festival of the Four Gates City — three days of the city centre full of stages
The Vier-Tore-Fest is Neubrandenburg's major city festival and one of the highlights in the event calendar of the Mecklenburg Lake District. It owes its name to the four medieval city gates — Friedländer Tor, Stargarder Tor, Treptower Tor, and Neues Tor — which, along with the completely preserved defensive wall, form the city's landmark. For one weekend at the end of August, the entire city centre becomes a festival mile.
Several stages are spread across the festival grounds, featuring live concerts across various genres, alongside a craft and artisan market, gastronomic stalls with regional specialities, and an amusement park. The market square, the boulevard, and the festival meadow are the central venues. The Neubrandenburg Event Centre organises the festival, which traditionally takes place with free admission.
A special feature of the Vier-Tore-Fest: the municipal cultural sites participate with their own programmes. The Regional Museum, Art Collection, Regional Library, the Registry Office, and other institutions open their doors with guided tours, hands-on activities, and special events. Thus, the festival combines a Volksfest (popular festival) atmosphere with the city's rich cultural offerings.
Neubrandenburg is located in the heart of the Mecklenburg Lake District in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, directly on the northern shore of the Tollensesee lake. Founded in 1248, the city with its complete defensive wall and four gates is an architectural gem — the Vier-Tore-Fest turns this heritage into a vibrant festival ground once a year.
From 28 to 30 August 2026, Neubrandenburg invites you to the Vier-Tore-Fest in the city centre. At the four historic city gates, on the market square, the boulevard, and the festival meadow, guests can expect a packed programme with live music, a craft market, gastronomic stalls, and an amusement park.
The municipal cultural institutions — including the Regional Museum, Art Collection, and Regional Library — are participating with their own programmes. Admission to the festival is free. The organiser is Veranstaltungszentrum Neubrandenburg GmbH.
