A Literary Festival with Tradition
The Neubrandenburger Bücherfrühling is a literary festival that has grown over three decades, transforming the Four-Tore-Stadt into a reading experience every spring. The occasion is UNESCO World Book Day on April 23rd; the festival expands it into a series of around 30 individual events over several weeks. The goal is to inspire people to read in an entertaining way.
Readings, Workshops, Awards
The program ranges from author readings and humorous formats in the BiboCafé to children's book readings, writing workshops, and award ceremonies. Key venues include the Neubrandenburg Regional Library, the Brigitte Reimann Literature House, the Regional Museum, and the Mecklenburg Literary Society. This creates a dense network of literary encounters across the city.
For Adults and Children
The Bücherfrühling explicitly appeals to all generations: while adults can expect readings on social issues and encounters with well-known female and male authors, there are separate readings and interactive formats for children. This makes the festival a highlight in the cultural calendar of the Mecklenburg Lake District.
Neubrandenburg as a City of Literature
Neubrandenburg is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District district in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. With institutions such as the Regional Library and the Brigitte Reimann Literature House, the city cultivates a vibrant literary heritage — the Bücherfrühling makes it visible every year.
