World's largest beach volleyball tournament on the beach of Karlshagen
The Usedom Beachcup is not just any beach tournament – it is officially the world's largest beach volleyball tournament. It has held this entry in the Guinness Book of Records since 2007. What began as a regional sporting event more than two decades ago has developed into an international mass event that attracts around 1,400 athletes from all over Germany and neighboring countries to the Baltic Sea every year.
Up to 95 courts are set up directly on the beach between Karlshagen and Zinnowitz. More than 3,000 games are played over three days in seven competition categories: men's, women's, and mixed competitions in various skill levels, seniors' cups, and the Quattro-Mixed with over 480 active players in this discipline alone. The Beachcup is also considered a ranking tournament for the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Beach State Championship.
One of the remarkable features: Admission to all games, the big beach party, and the event grounds is free. Spectators can move freely, watch professionals as well as amateur teams, and spend the entire weekend on the beach. Only a contribution of 25 EUR is charged for the USEDOM-123.de FUNCUP Finals.
In addition to the sporting competition, an extensive supporting program shapes the atmosphere. Bouncy castles, face painting, and mini-camps provide entertainment for children. Water sports activities — banana boat, SUP, wakeboard — complement the beach activities. In the evenings, the area transforms into a large beach party with live bands, DJ sets, and food trucks. The official opening ceremony on Friday evening and the final on Sunday mark the highlights of the weekend.
The Baltic Sea resort of Karlshagen is located in the north of the island of Usedom between Peenemünde and Trassenheide, embedded in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district. The wide, fine sandy beach offers ideal conditions for the tournament. During the Beachcup weekend, the beach forecourts, hotels, and guesthouses in the region are usually fully booked — a boom for the regional economy of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The non-profit Usedom-Beachcup Förderverein e.V. is responsible for organizing the event. It is a dedicated team of volunteers, athletes, and local partners. The association has developed the Beachcup over two decades from a regional initiative into a world record event, without losing its down-to-earth character.
With the 2026 edition, the Usedom Beachcup celebrates its 25th anniversary. The main sponsor of the anniversary edition is Danpower. The organizer promises an expanded supporting program and special activities around the player experience.
Seven cups are available: Men and women in skill levels, mixed competition, Quattro-Mixed (over 480 players in this discipline alone), seniors' cup, and the USEDOM-123.de FUNCUP. The latter is aimed at amateur players — registration is also possible on Sunday on-site.
Opening Friday evening, games all three days starting Saturday morning at 7:30 AM. Beach party with live music in the evenings. Bouncy castles, face painting, and water sports activities (SUP, wakeboard, banana boat) for families.
