Traditional Schützenfest of the St. Sebastianus Marksmen's Brotherhood Weilerswist
On Sunday, July 12, 2026, the St. Sebastianus Schützenbruderschaft Weilerswist invites you to its annual Schützenfest. A full day of celebration that combines the village character of the Voreifel with the traditional customs of one of the oldest ecclesiastical marksmen's brotherhoods in the Rhineland.
The brotherhood bears the name of Saint Sebastianus, a Roman martyr (died around 288) who was executed by archers — and has been venerated as a patron saint in many Rhenish marksmen's clubs since the Middle Ages. The ecclesiastical connection shapes the self-understanding of the Weilerswist brotherhood to this day.
The municipality of Weilerswist (around 17,000 inhabitants) is located in the district of Euskirchen (North Rhine-Westphalia) at the transition from the Voreifel to the Cologne-Bonn Bay. With 14 districts and a location between Bonn, Cologne, and Euskirchen, the municipality is characterized by agriculture yet is conveniently accessible.
The St. Sebastianus Schützenbruderschaft Weilerswist is a member of the Bezirksverband Euskirchen, which organizes the marksmen's clubs of the Euskirchen district. Through the Bund der Historischen Deutschen Schützenbruderschaften (BHDS), it is part of a nationwide network of around 1,300 brotherhoods.
A day of celebration in honor of one of Germany's oldest ecclesiastical patron saints of marksmen. Church service, parade through the village, king's shooting in the afternoon, crowning of the new king, and festival evening in the Schützenzelt (marksmen's tent).
Parade and church service are public. Festival tent admission according to the organizer.
By car via the A61, exit Weilerswist, then follow signs to the town center. Weilerswist train station (RB23 / RB24 from Cologne and Euskirchen), then a few minutes to the Schützenplatz.
Parade, church service, and public program parts are freely accessible. Festival tent and King's Ball admission according to the organizer.
In the morning, the church service in St. Kunibert Parish Church is worthwhile, followed by the procession to the festival grounds. In the afternoon, the parade offers the best photo opportunities — the brotherhood carries the banner motif of St. Sebastianus.
