Family festival with pirate spectacle at the beach forecourt
The Pfingstfest Karlshagen is one of the first major family festivals of the summer season in the Baltic Sea resort. Whit traditionally marks the beginning of the peak tourist season, and the municipality uses this weekend to offer locals and the first summer guests a free, low-threshold beach program.
The focus is on the pirate spectacle — an interactive show for children with actors in costume, treasure hunts on the beach, acrobatics, and child-friendly comedy. The program is complemented by face painting, a bouncy castle, and small craft stations. The combination of a beach setting and an animation program makes the festival particularly attractive for families with children.
The live entertainment in the concert shell stage area is dedicated to adults: local musicians, cover bands, and occasional short comedy acts ensure a cozy get-together. Food trucks and drink stands along the beach forecourt invite visitors to linger. Seating is arranged loosely — blankets on the beach are just as welcome as seats at the concert venue.
Karlshagen is located in the north of the island of Usedom between Peenemünde and Trassenheide, nestled in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district. The Baltic Sea resort is famous for its fine-sanded, wide beach and is considered a family-friendly counterpart to the more glamorous imperial spas of Heringsdorf, Ahlbeck, and Bansin. The municipality of Karlshagen organizes several free family festivals throughout the year, starting with the Pfingstfest and culminating in the Seebadfest in August.
The Pfingstfest is part of the municipality's conscious strategy to make the season opening low-threshold and socially inclusive. Admission to all program points is free — only food and drinks are sold at the stands. The event seamlessly fits into the diverse summer offerings of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, ranging from Whit classics to winter sparkle.
On Whit Saturday 2026, the Karlshagen beach forecourt transforms into a colorful festival mile. The morning opens with the pirate spectacle featuring costumed actors, interactive treasure hunts on the beach, and child-friendly acrobatics. Simultaneously, face painting stations, a large bouncy castle, and craft activities open for the youngest guests.
In the afternoon, live entertainment takes place at the concert shell — local musicians, cover bands, and occasional short comedy acts. Food trucks offering German snacks (sausages, fries, crêpes, ice cream) provide culinary sustenance.
Admission to the Pfingstfest is completely free. Food and drinks at the stands are payable — typical family prices (fries approx. 4 EUR, crêpes 3–5 EUR, ice cream 2 EUR per scoop, drinks 2–4 EUR).
Train: Usedomer Bäderbahn (UBB) to Karlshagen, a few minutes' walk to the beach forecourt.
Car: Via the A20 (exit Anklam), B109/B110 to Karlshagen. Parking available at Dünencamp and in the garages near the beach.
Admission is free. Food and drinks at the stands are payable. Family-oriented offerings (fries, crêpes, ice cream) at usual prices.
The Pfingstfest takes place on the Karlshagen beach forecourt, in close proximity to the beach and promenade. In case of rain, the program will be adapted — umbrellas and weatherproof clothing recommended.
