Würzburg Hbf (main train station) with subsequent bus or Main ferry/river cruise. Parking is limited in some areas – arrival by bicycle via the Main Cycle Path is highly recommended.
Admission
Free admission to the festival grounds on the Main riverbank. Wines and food are paid for on-site. A glass of Randersacker wine (0.1 l) costs between €2.50–€5 depending on the winery and quality, Flammkuchen approx. €7–€10, finger food portions €4–€8.
Tip
The most beautiful time is the evening hour with a view over the Main at sunset. Those arriving by bicycle can then cycle upstream along the Main Cycle Path to Sommerhausen or downstream to Würzburg. Book accommodation in Randersacker and Würzburg in advance, especially during high season.
Directly on the Main Riverbank
The Uferweinfest Randersacker is one of the most atmospheric wine festivals in the Franconian wine region. It takes place annually at the end of July/beginning of August directly on the Main riverbank in the wine-growing community of Randersacker – a traditional wine village in the Würzburg district (Lower Franconia, Bavaria), just a few kilometers upstream from the cathedral city of Würzburg. The event is organized by the renowned Trockene Schmitts winery, which hosts the festival together with partner wineries from the Jung.Wein.Macher initiative.
Jung.Wein.Macher
The Jung.Wein.Macher initiative brings together young Franconian winemakers who reinterpret the tradition of viticulture on the Main with contemporary wine styles and new festival formats. The Uferweinfest is their joint flagship: not a stuffy Heckenwirtschaft (seasonal wine tavern), but a summery lounge atmosphere with large wine crates as standing tables, hammocks between the trees, and a stage from which Funk, Soul, and Hip-Hop resonate.
The Randersacker Wines
Randersacker, with its top steep-slope sites Pfülben, Sonnenstuhl, Marsberg, and Teufelskeller, is one of the most renowned wine-growing communities in Franconia. The focus of the Uferweinfest is therefore on:
- Silvaner – Franconia's flagship white wine, in a Bocksbeutel or modern Schlegel bottle
- Riesling from the steep slopes along the Main
- Müller-Thurgau and Bacchus for easy-drinking summer wines
- Spätburgunder and Frühburgunder – Franconian red wine of increasing quality
- Crémants and Sekt (sparkling wine) made using the Méthode champenoise
Culinary Concept
The menu follows the lounge concept: small portions for tasting, rather than large main courses. Finger food such as Main fisherman's variations, sushi rolls with a Franconian twist, truffle pasta in mini pans, antipasti platters, and especially wood-fired Flammkuchen in classic and creative variations characterize the gastronomic offerings. The atmosphere is Mediterranean-Franconian: people stand, stroll, taste, and chat.
Awards
The Trockene Schmitts winery regularly receives top ratings in the renowned wine guides Vinum, Eichelmann, and Gault Millau. This recognition extends to the Uferweinfest, which is considered the "most beautiful wine festival in the region" and represents an important showcase of modern Franconian wine. The Uferweinfest thus ideally complements other local wine events such as the "Wein am Main" festival and the Randersacker wine hike.
