Multi-genre open-air with 10 days, 10 stages, and 100 acts in Freising
Since 2009, the Uferlos Festival has been the most important major cultural event in the Upper Bavarian cathedral city of Freising—and one of the largest free festivals in all of Bavaria. The organizers describe it as an open-air living room: not a classic genre festival, but a communal meeting place for music, workshops, gastronomy, and encounters in a green setting.
The program spans ten consecutive days and utilizes ten thematically distinct stages in the Luitpoldanlage—from the large main stage open-air for pop and rock headliners to the open-air jazz stage, the songwriter tent, the world music stage, the electronic dance floor, the children's music area, and the cabaret and comedy stage. With around 100 acts per edition, the festival boasts one of the most densely packed program offerings of the Bavarian summer season.
In addition to music, Uferlos offers an extensive accompanying program. The WeltWerkstatt (World Workshop) focuses on global learning, sustainability, and fair trade workshops for schools and families. There are also morning yoga sessions, artist talks, a large children's area with craft and theater activities, a market with local and sustainable vendors, and diverse food options emphasizing regional and vegan offerings.
Since the 2026 season, the festival has been managed by the newly founded uferlos gGmbH, a non-profit organization. The main sponsor for over 15 years has been the City of Freising. The concept of 'every euro stays in the project' ensures that no profits are distributed—instead, the program, stages, and infrastructure are continuously funded from the core assets. Free travel within the city and free admission are declared hallmarks.
Uferlos was founded in 2009 as a citizens' initiative and has evolved over 15 years from a weekend festival into a major event with supra-regional appeal. With Freising—a bishop's seat, beer city (Weihenstephan, the world's oldest brewery), and capital of the Hallertau region—as the host city, the festival combines local tradition with a cosmopolitan cultural ambition.
The 2026 edition marks a transition: for the first time, the festival is managed by the newly founded non-profit organization uferlos gGmbH. The ambition and concept remain unchanged—in 2026, the festival continues to attract visitors with ten days, ten stages, approximately 100 acts, and free admission to all program points.
The booking team remains the same. Over the ten festival days, the program spans from local newcomers to nationally recognized artists, from acoustic singer-songwriter sessions to late-night electronic sets. The WeltWerkstatt, with workshops on sustainability and global learning, runs concurrently, as does the extensive children's area.
The current lineup will be successively published on uferlos-festival.de.
